My spouse and I are huge bubble tea fanatics, and we got very excited to hear about this place opening in our Old Ottawa South neighbourhood. We've tried every single bubble tea place in town (Coco, Chatime, Presotea, The Alley, Yi Fang, Pomelo Hat, Sip Tea).
After trying almost half the menu now in the 3 weeks since their opening (taking advantage of that 20% promotion), I have to say this place did not disappoint us.
We've read some of the negative reviews, and we don't really agree. So as an unbiased local patron, I want to write about our experience so far.
Bad customer service? We've bought drinks at least 3 times a week for the past 3 weeks and we've never had bad service. The owner and the staff have been friendly and informative every time we've ordered and they even let us bring in our dog while we waited for our drinks. Were they slow the first week to make our drinks? Absolutely. I'm sure the staff will get up to speed in no time.
Wrong orders? There was a time where they gave us brown sugar pearls instead of regular pearls but we can't really complain. Having a lot of options for toppings is fantastic. A lot of places don't have sago, agar jelly, grass jelly. We're very happy that they do and I've noticed they do try to remake the drink if they notice they got it wrong.
High Prices, low quality? Their prices are actually quite fair (and you can say they're even cheap) compared a lot of other establishments like Sip Tea (for Cheese foam or fresh fruit) or Pomelo Hat (they're local but $9 for a smoothie?). Under $6 for a large milk tea with free toppings is extremely competitive vs the major chains like Chatime, Coco, Alley. We also think their tea quality holds up against higher end places The Alley and Yi Fang (both in the market). Their pearls are well made, the right texture and not too soft. And you can taste the difference in their matcha and milk teas. Having honey instead of sugar is also a really nice perk (we usually get 30% and that's plenty).
My fave teas so far are the 38 Milk King (high quality tea, 3 ingredients for $6), Signature Lite Fruit tea (not a big fruit tea guy but it was very fresh & delish! Also, you can't get basil seeds in other places), Taro Sago (this was pretty much a dessert you get at Chinese food places, it's a good thing), Pearl Latte w/ Brown Sugar (one of the better brown sugar drinks in the city), and Matcha Red bean slush (Matcha was high quality and red bean wasn't too sweet). They also have a pretty sweet points system (like Coco) where you get free toppings, free drinks, random $2 off coupons.
As a couple who has been obsessed with bubble tea for 2 decades, we can't be happier to have this place in our neighbourhood. The only danger is that we're TOO close to this place and we need to practice more self control after the promotional period. It's been a nice treat to see this place open during the pandemic. We hope it stays open for many...
Read moreGreat new tea place in town. Located on busy part of Bank st before the Landsdowne bridge. Ample parking on the road available. Ordered the pearl taro green milk tea with 0% sugar option. I knew the sweetness of their brown sugar tapioca would add to my drink and I wasn’t wrong. Green tea had a nice strong flavour to it. They have the softest and chewiest pearls I’ve ever had.
Staff were friendly and provided great service. It was busy when we got there and I felt that staff seemed a bit flustered with the rush and the amount of orders coming through. They had a designated cashier but then that worker was also in charge of packing the drinks and giving them to the right customers so it caused a delay in drink ordering.
Overall awesome new BBT addition to Ottawa. They have a great selection of drinks and flavour to choose from along with a variety of toppings.
Looking forward to coming...
