For many years we ordered from Lorenzo's on Arch. In fact, in the pre-pandemic era we'd pop into the restaurant for a quick night out and, on occasion, organized a larger gathering (such as a birthday party) when they had the dining room. Unfortunately, the last three or four times we ordered take-away we were less than impressed with the quality and quantity of their fare. There was a time the "Lorenzo Special" was one of the best pizza wheels in Alta Vista. Sadly, that is no longer the case. Moreover, they have significantly raised their prices which would be less of an issue if their quality was better. This is not to say their food is bad. It's not bad, as in rancid, but it's not that good either. It fills a hole I suppose but I expect far more. We have moved on, found another place with far better pizza and at a better price. Will we return? Not likely... we're creatures of habit and the decline in quality and increase in Lorenzo prices has drove us away. I merely offer this, what I believe to be objective and constructive, opinion for the owners/manager's consideration as I suspect any decline in clientele they are experiencing is not merely a consequence of a pandemic. Support your restauranteurs yes! But the product has to be worth...
Read morePizza was actually very good. As was the service. Up until after the meal. This was my first time in here in at least 6 years. The menu had changed. No shellfish on there anymore which is great because my wife has a deadly allergy. She was luckily not with me, but I told them of the allergy, just in case, as it poses a huge risk to her, and I was told they had no shellfish, even after I straight up named foods that are considered shellfish. After the meal, one of the other waitresses told me "we still do shrimp in a basket, but it's done in the fryer, so you're fine", despite my several mentions of a deadly allergy. I was told they don't have it on all the menus, as they have different menus depending on whether you are dining in vs ordering in. This level of ignorance is equivalent to playing Russian Roulette with people's lives. Imagine someone with the same allergy goes in, gets the same responses I got, so felt safe ordering a plate of fries. Fries fried in the same fryer used to make a shrimp basket just before. And the waitress was so nonchalant in her response. "I'll mention it to owner" in a way that was totally unbelievable. SO RIDICULOUSLY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS LEVEL...
Read moreWe went to Lorenzo’s for breakfast on a Saturday and it wasn’t bad. I’m pretty sure weekend breakfast is a new enterprise for them as they only have two offerings - a standard two-egg breakfast with home fries, coffee and choice of bacon, ham or sausage and white or brown toast for 9.99, or a three-egg breakfast with bacon, ham AND sausage plus the other stuff for 16.99.
We both ordered the two egg option and while it was pretty good we agreed that (a) the coffee could be a lot better and (b) the toast could benefit from more time in the toaster.
The atmosphere was about what you would expect from a small neighbourhood restaurant/sports bar/pizza place in a tiny strip mall.
The service was prompt, attentive and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Not our first choice for a diner breakfast though we will...
