Worst pub I've ever been to. The service is god awful, the beer selection sucks, the food is cardboard, the music is often bad, and too loud, and everything is overpriced. I can make a better burger for two bucks in a microwave. Your food is the blandest thing I've ever tasted.
I went a number of times and rarely ever had good service. It can take 15 minutes for anyone to approach your table, they'll wait a half hour before coming to check for refills. All of this when we're the only customers in the whole place. When we waited 20 minutes for the bill one time we just left cash on the table and left. When we came back a few weeks later, the manager threw a hissy fit, called my friend asian (he is white) and said we should have come to get her at the bar if we needed anything... What's the point of going to a restaurant if I have to get up and do everything myself because you're too busy chatting with your own staff?
Insanely overpriced food for the portion and quality, slow service and rude useless manager. And I've been out on the town a lot--so I know what I'm talking about. At least other royal oaks have better servers. It is clear by the people who work there that they are hired by this manager who for all intents and purposes might be called trailer trash.
Be warned there are often loud groups of drunk old men who gather here, and they have live music on Fridays (I think) that is so loud you can't even yell over it.
I refuse to ever return here and make sure to warn against it if anyone I know suggests going themselves.
So my friends and I decided Connors down the street is the place to go. Might as well review that here since you'll bee looking anyway. Connors' staff is always warm, and that is no exaggeration. Something about their hiring practices makes sure there are no degenerates working. They check in often (as any place should), their food is better and costs less, their beer is great, it's never ridiculously loud, and people are always in a good mood there, you might even find staff dancing with customers. And they have a Juke Box. Quality place with quality people.
This all might sound like I'm just a Connor's employee or something, but the truth is this review of Royal Oak is personal--that place needs new management. I've never been so disgusted with...
Read moreBeen here as part of a group 8-14 people the last 3 Wednesdays. It was arranged in advance with the restaurant. All three visits had the same results. The food itself was good however the service was slow but mostly non-existent. A member of our party had gone is search of water and encountered kitchen staff that refused to do anything on their lunch break and another that was apathetic to the fact no one knew where the "waitress" was. My concern was that, right in arm's length of the washrooms was broken glass on the floor. I happen to notice it was there for more than an hour. When brought to the attention of the staff we were told that it was a light fixture that fell from the ceiling and smashed. It's in the staff area. Obviously no thought it should be cleaned up. Personally I love the natural elements (wood/stone) in the decor but it's...
Read moreFathers Day breakfast became lunch as we waited for over an hour for our food. The server was lovely as she explained they were down one person. Their breakfast menu is simple and we ordered basic eggs and toast meals, and it took over an hour for the food to arrive - room temp toast and eggs are unpleasant. We ate because we were hungry. My spouse is diabetic and had taken her insulin in anticipation of the food arrival but did not count on such a long wait. Advice to manager: have a contingency plan so your ONE server - who was kind and pleasant - is not so stretched otherwise the problem lands in the laps of your customers. This is not the first time that we have had delayed service due to personnel issues. We will not plan to return here for...
