Great food, made very traditional. We'd say this place deserves 3-3/4 out of 5. We've frequented it a few times now (in order to give a realistic review) and after trying several dozen locations all over Ottawa we finally found a chinese food spot that knows how to make proper Cantonese Chow Mein (crunch noodles on bottom, soft noodles on top, then topped with veggies and meats. See pic). Though a bit thin on greens sometimes, the noodles were cooked right and the sauce was tasty. Their dim sum is worth the trip because having had dim sum in many places in NYC and Toronto we've found them to be good here too. The service is friendly and hospitable, with only a few times when they've been a little slow but we've never waited so long as to not want to return. As for the prices, well that's the bonus because when compared to the dozens we've tried all over Ottawa, they really are very reasonable and comparable to Toronto prices (though a bit less quantity than that of Toronto) which is very surprising considering the double marked up pricing we've encountered in "the few" other chinatown/Somerset chinese restaurants we've tried. We were glad to be dissapointed by those that reviewed with negative comments... Clearly these individuals were impatient and had very little dining experiences in or outside of Ottawa. We find that we prefer dining for tasty food rather than ambience. If that's what you prefer then there are many conglomerates that have oversaturated Ottawa that are happy to give you their overpriced cardboard skimpy meals by inexperienced kitchen help. Now if you prefer eating meals that are tasty and prepared by experienced chefs or cook, then this is a good...
Read moreWorst service I have e ever experienced. We walk in at 3:05 pm on Sunday 8 January 2017. There are only 3 tables of customer, head count less than 10 customers. It was not busy. We ordered 4 items(3 dim sum and a rice dish) The first item was served after 10 minutes. At 3:18pm a customer walk in and ordered take out. She left at 3:25 with 2 plastic bags of dim sum. (I noticed the time because I was texting) At 3:40, we heard someone from kitchen yelled out that there's missing order"S". Which is ours. Then at 3:45, we got our second dim sum dish. At 3:55, we got our rice dish. Then the 3 dim sum came. We told the waitress we had been waiting over 40 minutes for the dim sum. The purpose of ordering the dim sum is to snack on while waiting for the rice dish. And certainly it doesn't take that long to prepare the dim sum. Also we tried to get the attention of the waitress over 5 minutes by saying "excuses me and hello" in both Chinese and English, trying to get some tea.
The food quality is average. If you don't mind extremely poor service and long unreasonable waiting time. Then please visit this restaurant. It is really an experience in life in order to appreciate the service from other restaurants.
Summary: We won't ever visit this restaurant again in our life time even if the food is free. We go out to eat to enjoy. But the experience at this restaurant is far from "enjoy" I DO NOT own any restaurant and have nothing against this restaurant. But just...
Read moreWe got delivery tonight and we were very disappointed with a most of the items we ordered tonight, especially for the price. The Szechuan spicy deep fried chicken was the only thing that came crispy but wasn't spicy. The deep fried squid tentacles were a soggy mess, the batter was sliding off the tentacles. Our Cantonese fried noodle with shrimp pork and chicken only had 2 pieces of pork and 2 pieces of chicken, lots of shrimp tho. The dim sum take out menu was something we werent use to and didn't understand the difference sections sm,md,&lg which we thought was size, so we were a little thrown off when we got it. The Shrimp Har gow, pork shoulder mai, beef should mai, & shrimp, pork and cilantro dumplings were what you'd expect, not bad. We won't ever be ordering take out from them again, definitely over priced for...
