Captain Ken's — Restaurant in Penetanguishene

Had a much better experience here the first time. Ordered take out. It was complete empty when we walked in, just 4 staff members. The wait was excessive when we walked in, all staff ignored us until it got awkward and someone finally asked if they could help us. Ordered the Hoogie for the first time. Not impressed, a thin layer of cheap luncheon meats, basic cheese and bread and simple toppings. The thing was soggy and didn’t taste particularly good. Especially for $20. The fries were made fresh and were tasty.

What really bothered me though was that it was pre-made and just thrown into a toaster over. I might as well just have gone to a fast food sub place and had my sub made fresh from scratch.

It is also unacceptable for staff to be cleaning the kitchen with chemicals and splashing dirty filth water everywhere while also preparing my food at the same time.

The server WAS AWFUL!! She was so beyond rude. It took us an hour and 20 minutes to get our food. She didn't approach us and let us know that they were running behind but she did walk past us multiple times and didn't acknowledge us didn't even see if we wanted more drinks. When we finaly got our food I said it would have been nice if she approached us to let us know it was gonna be a wait and her response was "well I'm really busy" even though she walked past us multiple times and she stood and talked at a table with regulars I'm assuming and had a full on conversation with them. She was very rude when we first came in and she started and lighten up a little when she took our order then she became very sarcastic and ignorant when I pointed out we were waiting for over an hour. My wife and older son went to Captain Ken's on Tues. Aug.2/2022. We each had the fish and chips (Cod & Halibut) and a draft beer. We anticipated the food would be excellent from recommendations from friends. We weren't disappointed. The portions were large, my wife took half of hers home. You can have your fish pan fried or batter. We all decided on batter. It's just like the quality we enjoy in the UK. You can watch it being freshly put together in the open kitchen. It was a sports bar type atmosphere. We arrived around 4;30pm and were served right away by a friendly waitress. There is a wide range of food dishes to decide on. The people beside us enjoyed the Schnitzel, but we were really looking forward to a place with English style fresh fish and chips. Again, great food, nice place...
