So, I was looking for a place to eat in Perce and came across this cute restaurant that seemed to offer A LOT of what I enjoy. Good food, good wine, good ambiance. Made reservations earlier that day. Showed up to find out that our reservation was not taken. However, the owner, as frantic as he was, made an effort to seat us. He did, and we found ourselves towards the back right of the restaurant where we could people watch without being seen.
In doing so, we noticed a few things. We could see that there were a few tables who had been ignored or forgotten about for a long period of time, with an extremely obvious look of frustration on their faces. The area we were sitting in, was next to an area that was closed off by drapes. There was a strong smell of cigarettes, to which we brought to the owner's attention. He was just as confused as we were, and he gladly moved us to another seat (in his frantic way). Once seated at our new seats on the left side of the restaurant, we noticed that we too have now been ignored from a service standpoint, as we had not received any menu's or water. We then look up to see the owner (who I should mention is also the waiter) taking the orders of a table that walked in 20 minutes after us! And I cannot stress this enough, this is the worst part for me. As he is taking the order of the table that came in way after us, we overhear him say they ran out of lobster! The only reason I came!
At this point, low level of service, frustrated guests and ran out of their main dish, we decided to leave.
I leave a 3 star review because I do believe that it isn't easy to run a restaurant, seemingly on your own. I respect the grind, but that was just a very bad day.
If you do decide to go, I hope you have a better experience than...
Read moreFirst and foremost, I want to start this review by recognizing how great our server was. We didn't catch his name, but without his great service, this place surely would be 2 stars from us. We came as a group of 5, with only one of us speaking French. He was very patient with us and even allowed us to speak to him in English, rather than having our one French speaker say everything. He let us know his English wasn't the best, but he understood a bit. He was fantastic, kind, and patient.
I won't speak to what everybody else ordered, other than to say it mostly fell in the same range of rating. The seafood linguini was pretty good, at first. The seafood tasted fresh, and had a good bit of flavour. However, the amount of pasta and sauce to seafood felt off, and often each bite tasted bland, as the seafood flavour wasn't really imparted into the sauce itself. The serving size was good for the price, but again, mostly bland pasta and sauce, so by the time I was done, I was not enjoying the meal anymore.
On top of this, the staff and (probably) local patrons smoke so close to the entrance that the restaurant smelled of stale cigarettes. It was not pleasant whatsoever. On top of this, the lighting was very dim, but not in any nice way. Felt very dingy.
This place seems like a good place to go after a day at work to grab some beers and fries with some buddies, but perhaps not the best...
Read moreA small, homey bar & restaurant on the extreme northern end of the main strip and seemingly well off the tourist radar. Except for a handful of bar patrons, the place was nearly empty both nights I dined there. The waitress was a delightful gal who didn't speak a word of English but bridged the language barrier with grace and good humour.
And the food was awesome! Had the smoked salmon fettuccine which was served in a bowl the size of a pie plate. Nicely seasoned with a rich and creamy cheese sauce, and enough to satisfy two average diners.
The next day it was poutine and onion rings, again done to perfection, almost too much to eat in spite of the fact that both were small orders.
Not a place to go if you're a snotty, upscale dining snob (you know who you are). The exterior and decor are a little tired and you can easily overlook it while driving by. It's more like one of those hidden gems the locals keep to themselves while the tourists jam-pack the trendy, gastly expensive places just down the road.
Prices are good for a tourist town, the portions are huge and seem like home cooking, and the staff are amiable and attentive.
