Disappointed. Three people recommended this place to me, and I had hoped to have a positive experience with our visiting friends. Unfortunately, they had run out of three key items on the menu. My girlfriend and I need to eat light and cannot handle breaded items. After reporting that the falafel, the tuna and the mussels were not available, one of the owners angrily advised me that I needed to make another choice. We were about to leave, when she threatened that the two other orders had already been placed, implying that we were committed to paying for them. I suggested that she offer me an alternative to pizza or sandwiches, so she proposed the salad with chicken added. Unfortunately, the salad was soggy and the chicken was some type of deli style shaved product. Later, she muttered under her breath without looking at me that she would comp my meal. Nothing was offered to my friend who paid full price for her beef tartare which is not what she wanted either. As a former business owner, I get that it is really painful to admit a mistake, as you tend to take it personally when things go wrong. In the service industry, it is all about how you deliver bad news, what you offer and most importantly, how you apologize and make it right. Being rude, not looking me in the eye, and not offering my friend some compensation were not appropriate measures. She tried to make me feel that it was my problem, not hers. BTW, the waitress was great, cheerful and funny. Too bad that the owner was not. It would have even been nice if she had let us leave and invited us to come back at another time. Not sure that I would return as who knows how I will be treated next time. ...
Read moreJust was in for the first time today for lunch. I was meeting a business associate for an up date so wanted a quiet spot for a casual lunch. The atmosphere was more up scale than I had expected. They had taken a reservation and place us in as quiet a spot as possible. We arrived at noon and the restaurant wasn't busy yet. We were pleasantly greeted and seat. Given a fresh bottle of icy cold tap water and menus. The selection was reasonable in number, not excessive and very interesting. Ordering your meal is almost cafeteria style, You go to the front to order and pay. They give you a little table stand with a number and bring you your order. I had the daily soup which was a pepper soup and the roast beef dip sandwich. I also had a beer. My friend had the polenta fries with a prosciutto and cheese sandwich. The food was fabulous. I could have had more soup but couldn't finish my sandwich. By the time we left about 1:30 the place was pretty busy with the patio half full. Well worth the stop! Two...
Read moreWe were planning to go to Gather but it was closed. As we walked across the road, we chanced upon this place which had equally good reviews.
We ordered a cold americano, BLT, fun guy pinsas, curried butternut squash soup and the green salad.
Our order got mixed up and they got us a hot americano but were very quick to fix it. The servers were cheerful and very warm.
My son was a little underwhelmed with the BLT, mostly because the bread was a bit too hard for his liking. The pinsas was essentially a small pizza. The bread was moist and sweet and topped with copious amounts of mushrooms. Overall, it was a dish packed with flavours.
My mom loved the soup and said this was the best butternut squash soup she has had..
The salad had a huge portion of spring greens and was topped with balsamic vinegar, pomegranate, candied walnuts and fresh figs. The flavours were good but a bit too acidic for our palate. We finished it regardless.
Overall, a...
