East City Coffee Shop — Restaurant in Peterborough

I had just delivered a load of gasoline at the Shell station next door and was going to walk to the Tim Horton’s down the street for a coffee for my drive back to Toronto, but I was drawn into the East City Coffee Shop by the smell of bacon. I ordered my coffee and flashed my debit card. The owner smiled and said “it’s on me...we’re cash only” Being from out of town, I had no idea. Maybe a sign on the door would be helpful? I apologized for my ignorance, and the owner was good natured, friendly and polite.

I couldn’t let the good deed pass me by, so I found an ATM and returned to pay for my coffee and order a breakfast sandwich. Had a Breakfast Club and it was great. Worth the price for sure. And, as a bonus, they let the coffee slide. Glad I passed on Tim’s and stopped in here.

I don’t get to Peterborough often, but I’ll return to the East Side Coffee Shop each time I do. And I’ll remember...

East City Coffee Shop is a true gem and is certainly one of the prides of Peterborough.

We were immediately greeted upon entry and offered a table. Within seconds, a server approached our table for drinks. Our server was friendly and attentive.

We asked for recommendations on lunch and I was told the Reuben with home fries would be a good bet. The food arrived quickly, maybe within 10 minutes but it was expertly crafted. The bread was soft and fresh, but perfectly crisped on to a very light golden brown. The meat, cheese and sautéed onions were all fresh and perfectly finished with a deli style mustard with mustard seeds. Home fries were beautifully seasoned while having a homestyle feel.

These kinds of high standards and attention to detail at an affordable price is a rarity, particularly these days. Anyone would be well advised to stop by for a lovely breakfast, brunch or lunch.

Go where the locals go! A highly recommended breakfast spot in East City Peterborough with a loyal following. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is a cool ptbo vibe. There is a beautiful interior with old style booth or bar seating. In the summer months, there is a cool sunny patio area. Trust me, you want bacon, homefries and eggs cooked to perfection? Stop by East City Coffee Shop! I always feel VIP here. Alban and his crew understand how to make customers feel comfortable while providing excellent service & good food

Update: I had no idea that Alban served soup and it was delicious! A Sweet Potato Coconut Curry blend. My favourite!

Update: Brunchin on a long weekend! Two specials, sippin coffee on the patio and enjoying the wonderful atmosphere!
