I’ve been coming to this cozy little sushi spot for special occasions since it’s close to home, and I used to really like it—until my visit last night.
First, the room was uncomfortably hot. I usually feel cold, but even for me, it was overwhelming hot.
Then came the wine service. I ordered a $16 glass, and while they brought the bottle for me to taste, the waiter never showed me the label. After I approved it, he took my glass and the bottle to the kitchen, saying he had to pour it using a measuring glass. When the wine came back, it tasted noticeably different—stronger and less smooth. When I asked why they don’t pour in front of customers, the owner jumped in defensively, insisting that’s just how they do it.
She later brought the bottle back and tried to pour me another glass, but I had already ordered something else. Instead of handling it professionally, she walked away looking annoyed without saying a word. While the rest of the staff was kind and tried to smooth things over, the owner’s attitude made the situation unnecessarily stressful.
As for the food, I generally like their house maki, but I find snow crab makes the sushi feel too heavy with its creamy texture. Also, based on past visits, the fish isn’t always the freshest.
At $90 per person, I expected better service and attention to detail. Thankfully, the staff worked hard to fix the issue, so I left with an "almost...
Read moreWe went for lunch. Place is nice and cozy (although they should replace the ceiling tiles damaged by water infiltration). Staff is nice and welcoming.
We ordered and an avocado bowl ($22) and a 12-piece meal ($20). The salad as an appetizer is fantastic. The leaves were crisp and the dressing was very tasty. The avocado bowl: The rice was too wet (mushi texture) and the mayo overshadows the fish and other ingredients. The presentation was nice.
The 12-piece meal: Got one maki roll with a shrimp tail as the only piece of fish (there was absolutely no meat in the tail left). Most maki pieces were made of cut pieces of salmon with a lot of mayo. Overall, all pieces tasted the same. Doing a blind test, I would have not been able to differentiate the various types of rolls I was eating.
Overall, the food was just ok for the price. I would have like to either have more food or better food for the price. It’s a nice place to bring your loved one in the west island but not a place if you’re looking to enjoy really good sushi. Basically, it misses the mark for people looking for a lot of food for the price and misses the mark for people looking for good...
Read moreThis sushi restaurant left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, it wasn't the first time we visited this place with my wife, and the first time was as special as this one – our anniversary. That's why we decided to book a table in advance, two weeks prior, choosing a special spot by the window. Unfortunately, due to a car accident on the road, we were 15 minutes late, which we reported to the restaurant by phone. Upon arrival, it turned out that our table was already taken. Of course, we were very upset, but decided not to spoil our evening and sat at another table. The service, as always, was excellent – the waiter, a young man with dark hair and excellent English, was very attentive. Alas, there were questions about the food. It seemed that there was a disproportionate amount of rice in the rolls. However, the tartare was simply divine, a huge thank you to the chef! But the most unpleasant thing was waiting for us ahead. Half an hour later, the table by the window that we had booked became free. We politely asked to be transferred, explaining the situation, but were refused. For over an hour before we left, this table remained empty, although we emphasized three times the importance of this place for us on this special day. Again, we were sitting at the next table on our anniversary, looking at the empty table that had been reserved for us. I consider this attitude of the staff to be unacceptable. Despite all the advantages of this restaurant, pleasant memories and good service, because of this attitude, I intend to forget the way to this restaurant.
