I've had the opportunity to order twice from this new establishment so far and I think I have found one of the best fried chicken joints in Vancouver.
The first order was a 4 style combo: regular fried, soy garlic, yangnyeom, and padak. The second order were K-Namite chicken and, again, regular fried. All the different flavours were excellent, especially the sauces used for K-Namite, soy garlic and yangnyeom, but the standout was the regular fried chicken. If you want to gauge the general quality of a Korean fried chicken restaurant, you have to go for the regular fried option before your taste buds become prematurely convinced by the quality of the sauce. From all my years of getting Korean fried chicken to go, I think there's no chain brand Korean chicken place that does it better than here.
Another strange but awesome caveat to Hen's Up, when compared to the other Korean chicken joints, is that they actually have a pretty big and unique menu. Their K-Namite chicken was a delicious and spot-on rendition of Kkanpunggi - a type of sweet/sour/spicy fried chicken exclusively found in Korean-Chinese cuisine. They have Korean street food options like Hotteok (almost like a thicker sweet fried crepe) and the Korean style sotteoksotteok, which is pretty unique. But the most suprising thing about their menu is that they make Jjimdak, a sort of braised chicken dish that is fairly popular in Korea. While I haven't tried the street food or Jjimdak yet, I have high hopes considering how good their fried chicken was.
From their menu alone, Hen's Up seems like an anomaly in the Vancouver fried chicken industry. It's like finding yourself in a little corner of Korea in the middle of Port Coquitlam compared to the chain restaurants we're...
Read moreOur Boys at Hens Up Chicken serving up some Delicious Korean Fried Chicken without so much as an Instagram page even. Honestly, those pieces were FIRE. The sauces could have been better but whatever they lost on the sauce they made up for on the crispiness and tenderness of the chicken. We ordered the Trips Threat for $32 in which we got the Spicy Yangneom (Not Spicy at all), The Honey Garlic (Your Basic Honey Garlic) and the Pepper ( My favourite)
I also got a Mexi Ranch sauce on the side to dip which was like a mixture of Korean Sauce with Sriracha so added a bit of spice to the mix and it came with coleslaw and what I can only describe as Coleslaw Sauce. Extra $2 for Pickles if u a radish is a must have guy otherwise I'd skip it.
Clean Place, Quick Service and Good food. If I'm in the area I'd re visit for...
Read moreI’ve been ordering from this place through uber eats three times now. The portions are keep getting smaller and the chicken looks different from the picture. Also the pickle was missing in today’s order. I ordered large red hot pepper chicken and in the picture it seems like the sauce is glazed in every chicken but it is not. I took a picture after having 4 pieces of chicken. The portions are soooo small compare to other Korean chicken places. My partner and I normally can’t finish large chicken from other Korean places but today wasn’t even enough. I’m guessing through the picture of other reviews that the portion is bigger when dining in. I’m writing this review because I genuinely hope the portion gets better so I can...
