We had dinner at Mapo Korean BBQ Garden and overall had a really good experience. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, the location is convenient, and the prices were fair for the quality and portion sizes. Everything from the banchan to the mains was well-prepared and satisfying.
The only issue we had was with the BBQ setup. There were five of us, and we were excited to enjoy the Korean BBQ experience. After waiting for a table, we were offered one with a grill, but then asked if we would be okay sharing it with two other people (strangers). That was confusing. We were expecting our own table, not to share it with strangers. So we just ended up doing the regular menu instead of the BBQ experience.
Aside from that, the meal itself was excellent, and we’d still recommend Mapo to anyone looking for tasty Korean food in Port Coquitlam. Just something to be aware of if you’re going specifically for BBQ...
Read moreWe walked by the new Korean Mapo BBQ and weren’t planning on BBQ two days in a row (Galbi yesterday already filled our meat quota). But their summer cold noodle poster was calling our name on this scorching hot day, so in we went.
The restaurant was packed, but we got seated quickly. We ordered pork bone soup, cold noodles, and pork cutlet. The décor is bright, modern, and super clean. The servers were friendly and working so hard—they barely had a second to breathe.
The cold noodles were refreshing and tangy, perfect for the weather. The pork bone soup was amazing—full of flavor, fall-off-the-bone tender meat, and surprisingly not spicy (I’ll definitely ask if they can kick it up a notch next time).
One big plus: the space feels open and comfortable. Unlike some K-BBQ places where you’re packed in like sardines, here you actually get elbow room. Great food + friendly service + space to breathe = we’ll definitely be back...
Read moreMy first time for Korean food and I loved it. I went with meat-eating, spicy-loving friends and I’m a vegetarian who prefers a lower level of spice. There was something for everyone. The waiter and manager were so great. They explained everything (we are not Korean) and double checked on our one person with a food allergy. I ordered the bibimbap without meat and it was great. As a group we ordered the family combo which also had lots of delicious non-meat options so didn’t really have to order something different. The corn/cheese dish was amazing. We also had tteokbokki (chewy rice cakes), tempura and cold noodles in icy broth. All good. All the ingredients were top-notch. Service was excellent. Very clean premises including the restroom. I will...
