I went there with my daughter while we had some time to kill. We were both greeted as we walked in by the owner and barista. I was very impressed with their selection of foods and the fact that they make everything in house from scratch. My daughter is a picky eater, she wanted to try something new and ordered the egg and avocado breakfast Sandwich and I ordered the veggie panini and they were both so delicious. My daughter finished by hers and then ate half of mine lol I need to go back there for lunch as I have been craving that other halfback I never got to finish! We also shared a Carrot Cake and a Peacan chocolate brownie that the owner just finished baking and they were both so delicious. I’m so use to Blenze, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, & Waves that when I find Coffee houses like this I get really excited. I feel I get more value for my money going to Home owned places like this. I ordered a Latte and loved that the barista made a little design on the top. My daughter order a chocolate frap with no coffee and she enjoyed that too. Prices are very reasonable and your typical coffee house rates. I loved that they had fresh water you could help yourself too and the little play area they had set up in the back for kids is perfect for parents to be able sit and chat while they’re their kids are entertained. Everything in there is very modern and up to date. They said they had just opened a few weeks ago and were still working on a few finish touches but over all the venue was very clean and spacious and well set up design. We will definitely be coming...
Read moreFirst visit to Black Sugar today. I was quite impressed with the selection of food available, including a number of baked goods (with several vegan options), a selection of "handhelds", and two soup options. I had a turkey breakfast sandwich and a blueberry scone. Both were quite good.
The downside was the coffee, which was not great. This is unfortunate for a "coffee shop". I drink americanos, so it's difficult to tell after one visit if this is a barista thing, or a bean thing, but I suspect it's a barista thing. My wife, who is always happy with my worst espresso pulls at home, agreed with me. Although the beans are sold/branded with the Black Sugar name, they are not roasted in-house, but are supplied by CuppaJoe. CuppaJoe is a local organic roaster which I have not had experience with, so the jury is out on the...
Read moreI used to LOVE going to this place for a nice coffee or a baked snack or even a good soup! The food and coffee are good but i found that last three times the service was lacking and even to the point of one visit of being rude because I didn’t hear what the person said to me (I have hearing issues in one ear and with background noise it’s all muffled ) which I believe was one of the owners. I also dropped in 5 mins before they closed in my last attempt and the door was open and a person was inside but I was told by a gal sweeping the floor that they were closed. I try and support local places but with the attitude they seem to have gotten in the last 6 months and the high prices they charge I’ve taken my business elsewhere. It’s too bad because there...
