A small and charming museum in Port Moody, well worth a short visit if you’re in the area. It offers a gentle glimpse into the city’s past, housed in a historic station that still feels like it might welcome a steam engine at any moment.
Admission is free, though one does feel a polite moral obligation to leave a donation. These places don’t run on nostalgia alone, after all.
The exhibits are modest but lovingly maintained, photographs, artifacts, and handwritten details that speak more to care than curation. The highlight is the full-sized CPR train car, which you can enter. Stepping inside feels like time-travelling to a Canada where people wore hats unironically and rail travel was romantic rather than a logistical nightmare.
Staff or volunteers are wonderfully warm and seem genuinely pleased to share the stories behind the place. You won’t need more than half an hour, but you’ll leave with a quiet sense of appreciation for local history and the people keeping it alive.
Not a destination museum, but an utterly pleasant detour. Bring a 5-dollar bill or two for the donation box,...
Read moreI have brought both my high school classes to the Port Moody Museum for a tour by Marcus. Marcus came highly recommended by other educators and he truly was fantastic. Booking was quick and easy, and it was a very affordable visit.
Our tour of the trenches and airplane in the back were great for students to explore. There is an outdoor, covered area with picnic benches and a train on property as well.
When booking, we asked for topics specifically about Indigenous soldiers and women, how mental health was handled, and how BIPOC were received. It was a trip that was about WWI and about social justice issues we experience today; it gave a lot for students to think about.
Marcus was flexible if things changed last minute. He was also great with creating a plan for a class who was learning to manage their focus.
The facility is currently being decolonized which speaks to the integrity of the folks overseeing the Port Moody Station Museum.

Read moreHAUNTED BEAUTIFUL MUSEUM! This is for real, this is not a made up story! Me & my friend randomly went inside this museum. No one was there, it was just the two of us. No employee was inside too. We just entered, it says OPEN. We were looking around for at least 15-20 mins already. All of a sudden, the rotary phone that was on display, on the wall, not connected to anything rang 2x! Me and my friend looked at each other… Was that the phone in the kitchen? So we went to the kitchen, and the moment we went to the kitchen, it stopped ringing! That was just 2 rings. We ran outside. It was a beautiful day so I was not that scared to go back since we were not finished looking at other artifacts there. We went back inside, and the light inside the door to the basement was suddenly ON. It was not ON prior. We left because my friend was scared she didn’t want to continue. She looked it up today, and apparently it’s haunted!!!!! We didn’t...
