Had a great meal at Kurumba Restaurant in Port Moody! This restaurant features dishes from different parts of Asia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, etc. We ordered the following:

Thai Crispy Spring Rolls - these Rolls were okay. They lacked shrimp & filling in general but were nice & crispy. Unfortunately I don't think I would order them again.

Sri Lankan Hot Buttered Calamari - this dish was amazing & I couldn't stop eating it. The calamari was cooked to perfection & the buttery sauce was quite spicy with a hint of sweetness. Soooo good.

Roti Canai - I love Roti Canai & this definitely hit the spot. If I had one issue with it, is that the curry dipping sauce was the same or at the very least very similar to the Sri Lankan Beef Curry (another dish we ordered) & as a result it was very spicy.

Sri Lankan Beef Curry - We asked if this could be made on the mild side & the server said she would try but didn't think it was possible & I can see why. It appears the beef has been cooked it the sauce for several hours. It was fork tender & the flavours of the sauce permeated right through the meat. It was at least 2 chilli's spicy as the menu states, but the flavours were so good we couldn't stop eating it, even with tears running down our faces.

Chicken Kottu Roti - Sri Lankan Hawker Style dish made with shredded roti canai & scrambled eggs. This dish was okay. I found that it lacked chicken & eggs & was heavy on the roti. We ended up taking this one home. The next day we added some more chicken & eggs & gave it another fry & omgoodness, it was soooo good, I had two helpings!

Overall this is a great restaurant to try different ethnic dishes in one spot at a reasonable price. Some of the dishes are hit & miss but overall it was a great experience. The service is friendly & quick. Just beware, that if you are ordering a dish that has even a one chilli pepper rating, chances are it is going to be spicy, even if you ask for it to be on the milder...

There website says specifically to MAKE RESERVATIONS and we made reservations for a Friday group. They wanted it to be confirmed on the Thursday the amount of person exactly also wanted us to order food???? Like really this group would had been ordering for themselves so how are we supposed to “pre-order” for them and why would we order our friends food? PAYING SEPARATELY??? SO TO CONTINUE they didn’t give a specific time to call back so my wife was going to call after “work” on Thursday “the day” they wanted us to call back. I get a call from I assume the manager or owner saying that they are CANCELING OUR reservations because my wife didn’t answer the phone.....while she was working, telling me that because of this they cannot help us??? I tried to say she is “working” and they just said sorry cannot do the reservation because you didn’t call us ??? It was only 4pm on Thursday? Our Reservations our for FRIDAY and them leaving us with nothing? For our group? Ridiculous and very POOR Customer service especially with their website saying they recommend making reservations? BS if you ask me. 👎🏽 I was a returning customer and I did enjoy it last time I was there, I figure it would have been nice to go again. I guess they don’t beleive in taking care of a repeat business lol maybe they have new owners or something. Oh well there are many other establishments that are willing to provide proper...

You are going to be blown away by this, hold on tight to your keyboard and mouse!

THIRD time visiting Kurumba, thought it is a neat place; but found out in a bad way tonight the owner Richard Sun is a big man with unfortunately a very small heart.

You might go there thinking you are supporting your community business. To Richard Sun, you are NEVER his community.

A party of 11 people for birthday dinner tonight. Called ahead to make reservation, and asked if we can bring a cake to eat. Waiter said okay no problem.

Final bill ~$225 before tax and gratuity. We paid first (our mistake), then asked plates for cake. Young waiter flustered uncomfortably, and cringed his boss said the restaurant can't serve us with their ceramic plates, and we have to buy paper plates from them ?????????

After some confused exchange, Richard Sun himself hell-marched out of his kitchen, and pontificated loudly:

"We can't let you eat using our restaurants' plate because the cake leftover is very tedious to scrap off. I will have to do it myself. You can buy paper plate from us. I think this is fair".

This is a light cake with fruit topping, not event a cheese cake. We were just blown away by how this MAN THINKS. Never heard such an excuse.

We thought we were supporting a local business. To Richard Sun, we were just meat...

We bought some takeout food for dinner from Kurumba in Port Moody and brought it to a friend's place for dinner. Our order consisted of 3 pieces of whole fried fish, Seafood Char Hor Fun noodles, Sambal Tofu with Eggplant, Coconut Rice, and Goreng Pisang with Ice Cream. Everything was delicious but the star of the show was the fried fish. The man who packed our food at the restaurant left the lid slightly open for us as I had expressed concern that the fish might lose its crispiness by the time we reached our destination. While it was definitely better on previous occasions when we ate it fresh in the restaurant, it was still quite crispy when we sat down to eat it. We were impressed with how crispy the fish was, considering how far it had traveled. My husband and I brought leftovers home and reheated it a couple of days later in our Ninja Foodi machine, on air crisp setting. Oh wow...it was even better than when we had it fresh in the restaurant. Crispy, plus...less greasy! Service: Good Parking: Free parking in front of the restaurant. Location: Kurumba is on St. Johns St. which is a busy street in Port Moody. Short drive from Coquitlam Centre and Rocky Point Park.

Truly delicious, authentic, wonderful Sri Lankan food!! We tried the Kotthu, Beef Curry, Pork Curry, Noodles, the Potato/Bean/Carrot Curry, and the Nasi Goreng. All the Sri Lankan dishes were IMPECCABLE. The koththu was smoky and unbelievable. Curries were seasoned to perfection with clearly Sri Lankan spices and slow cooked so that there were really rich, spicy flavor profiles. Flavors were incredible and exactly how they are back home! My only critique would be some of the portion sizes. The curries are decently sized but the rice (yellow rice and white rice) are small bowls and we had to buy several to feed our crowd but only one of each curry. The Nasi Goreng was not our favorite.. it didn’t come with the fried egg or chicken skewers/satay like we’re used to, and flavor wise too it was like a soy fried rice, no notable lemongrass flavor. But other than that, The servers and chef were also super friendly and helpful and all the other dishes were truly amazing! Overall we had a wonderful experience and really really enjoyed the food. Best spot I’ve been to so far for Sri Lankan food, highly recommend!
