In the MOOD for sushi…
I tried their Burnaby location a few times when it first opened and had mixed experience with it. In Port Moody and this place seemed to be the only sushi place around opens till 11pm during the weekend.
This place is located on St. John Street, right beside McDonald’s. There are parkings available on the side and back plus street during certain time. Inside has a simple yet trendy decor to it, making the experience quite casual.
After being seated, here were the food I ordered;
Ebi sunomono. It was a generous portion, but I find the shredded purple cabbage was a little too excessive and in the way. And taste wise was a little on the bland side. Black cod miso sake yaki. Nice presentation and taste but it was half meat and half belly. One thing about grilled or bbq black cod belly is they have that chewy crunchy texture that I am not a fan of, certain people enjoy it, just not me. Assorted sashimi (3pcs salmon, 3pcs tuna, 3pcs sockeye, 4pcs chefs choice). Pretty fresh but a bit disappointed with the chef’s choice, 2 slices of tako and 2 pieces of hokkigai (technically 1 hokkigai that’s been halved). That was weak and another reason why I never like “chef’s choice or selection” on the menu. More often than not it’s never good. I usually ask but forgot this time, therefore, ALWAYS ask to ensure no lame ducks are being served! Spider roll. Had its little own flair but overall pretty basic. Ikura, toro, saba, chopped scallop nigiris. They were fresh, pretty basic standard sushi.
This is a decent little Japanese restaurant located on the busy Port Moody strip, easy location to get to and find. The service here was no wow factor but it was okay. As for the food I ordered, the price was decent in terms of freshness and portion wise. But the ingredient selection wise, certainly have room for improvement.
Nevertheless, I think I already tried all the restaurants along the beginning of this strip to the end of Poco?? Next time maybe give Sushi Mori a revisit when in the...
Read moreI've never walked out of a restaurant before.
I was here on August 19, 2025 around 5:30 PM. I was excited for my friend to try a new restaurant and in a good mood for sushi. The restaurant didn't look busy, and there were lots of empty tables.
We were seated at a small table in the far corner without a tablet to order from. I wanted to change tables, but initially thought it was fine. Maybe it was because we were only 2 people, and most of the other tables with the tablets were bigger for larger parties. No big deal.
We later saw several 2-people groups get seated at bigger tables with ordering tablets, and there were plenty of open tables with tablets we could have been seated at.
In our corner table, our waitress ended up either forgetting about our table or was straight up ignoring us. She kept attending to the tables around us with her back towards us the entire time. Didn't even glance at our table once. When she did look at our table, she didn't even bother to ask if we were ready to order, and continued to ignore us. Our waitress later sat another group at a nearby table, who came around 10 minutes after my friend and I. She promptly served them and took their order, still with her back turned towards us the entire time, even after she took their order. Our waitress later looked at our table again and still continued to not check up on us. After waiting some more, we got up and left.
The entire mood of the restaurant felt so off and unwelcoming. Even from the start, our waitress seemed very friendly with all her other tables except ours. It was an unpleasant and embarrassing experience. A shame really. I hope no one else has to experience what we...
Read moreI will not patronize this establishment again. While the food was satisfactory, the conduct of a server named Diha rendered the experience unacceptable.
I visited this restaurant based on a referral from a friend in Port Moody and placed an order totaling $47. I voluntarily provided a gratuity of $3, as tipping is discretionary and not legally mandated in either the United States or Canada. However, the server aggressively solicited an additional tip, demanding an amount as high as $20. When I declined, she engaged in conduct that was unprofessional and coercive. In response to this undue pressure, I requested the return of my tip.
Compelling patrons to provide excessive gratuities under duress constitutes unethical business practice and could be construed as a form of financial exploitation. My referring friend, appalled by the incident, has also decided not to patronize this establishment in the future. If an individual seeks greater compensation, they should pursue lawful avenues for increased earnings rather than engaging in conduct that borders on coercion. I will not...
