Minato Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Powell River

I went there for the first time yesterday evening and I am blown away by this place! The quality of the food was far better then what I expected for the price. The seafood salad was loaded with fresh, good quality sashimi that just melted in my mouth! I also had the speciality roll "Rocky Roll", a true masterpiece! I had to try the avocado shake since I never had one before. Although avocado in a milkshake sounds a little strange, I think I found my new favorite milkshake! Give it a try, it doesn't disappoint! The service was great and I really appreciated the privacy that each dinning room offered. The only thing I could criticize is that is was a little chilly in there, the air-conditioning could have been turned down a bit. I also would have preferred warm lightbulbs instead of the bright daylight lightbulbs to offer a bit more coziness, but now I am nitpicking. Not vegetarian friendly. Ordered the tofu teriyaki dinner course for $30. Told the server I was vegetarian and no fish. Miso soup tasted like it had animal stock. Salad arrived with shrimp on top. Main course was served on a hot metal cow.

Tofu was the silken kind used for agadeshi tofu. Two massive, and I mean huge like the size of one of those scientific calculators from the 90's big. Try eating that with chop sticks! This was served on a bed of syrupy shredded carrot and cabbage. The vegetable tempura (that was supposed to be part of the meal) didn't arrive, we barely saw our server and the service...

We arrived late in the evening, about an hour before closing. The restaurant was full with a table just finishing up. The servers quickly cleared the table and invited us to our table. We were asked what we'd like to drink and we ordered the tea, which was delivered very quickly and hot. We ordered our meals, after about 10 minutes the miso soup was delivered and about 5 minutes later our main course was served. The food was hot and fresh and delicious. The servers are very pleasant and we love our experience eating here. The atmosphere is pleasant with mostly private...
