My boyfriend and I could not have been happier with our visit. As avid backpackers and travellers we have stayed at lots of campgrounds over the years both in Canada and internationally, but this one must have been one of the finest we've ever been to. Gorgeous location right at the beach, extremely clean facilities (I couldn't believe washrooms looked as sparkling clean in the evening as they did in the morning!), bear caches, laundry room..Our campsite was well maintained and a short walk to the beach as well as an amazing family-friendly interpretive trail (Willingdon Beach Park Trail) with some very interesting natural and historical points of interests. Lady at the reception was sweet and very helpful.
A very special thanks to the campground supervisor Mike who brought us here after spotting us stranded on a rock after our canoe sunk during our multi-day canoeing trip on Powell River Forest Canoe Circuit. He and his family went out of their way to rescue us to safety and then arranging this place so that we could rest and recover. Their kindness and willingness to help are a true testiment of the goodness of people of Powell River. We are honored and very grateful to have met this man and stayed at his campground.
Strongly recommended and we will definitely be returning (likely not the canoe...
Read moreThis is our families go-to beach. It has a wonderful strand where we see dolphins and even whales sometimes when the tide is out and they hunt along the drop off. There are tiny crabs that my littlest loves to hunt, and sand, huge logs, and a variety of rock for creative play.
The playground is great for able-bodied kids of developmental ages up to 10 or so. Somewhat accessible, though not great: there is an adult compatible hybrid swing and zipline, but it's in a area you have to step down to get into. Ramps on the equipment but a wheelchair won't get far, etc. The spirit is there but the scope is small. Accommodations are angled for adult sized bodies with some minor limits.
There's a pier, great for crabbing, and a campground right next door.
The park has a decent concession, open in summer, and washrooms, open all year. There is a wonderful gazebo that is used for local celebrations three seasons of the year, and tiered seating facing the water that sees a lot of use when we have fireworks.
There's frequently festivals and markets in the summer, and it's a gathering place year round.
What else can I say? It's our...
Read moreMy friends came from Winnipeg, Manitoba to be married in the Willingdon Beach Park in Powell River. They were able to reserve the covered pavilion for the time of the ceremony which allowed them to relax in case of inclement weather. As it turned out, we had the only rain that month. The park was clean and gave great accessibility to the beach and other areas for pictures. The pictures were stunning!
The only drawback of the day was the behaviour of the tenant on the back deck of the building located right behind the pavilion because they chose to smoke weed and listen to music that was not to our liking during the ceremony.
My family has used the park for several years for family gatherings, especially dinners on the picnic tables on the grass. It was always appreciated to have this space available for larger gatherings.
If you have young children, the water park and sandy beach are welcomed additions...
