Thaidal Zone Restaurant — Restaurant in Powell River

Stopped in after our daughter’s hockey game before taking the ferry back to the island. We chose this place because it had lots of vegetarian options. We were the first ones in after the 3:30 pm opening. We ordered just in time. A few minutes later an entire soccer team with parents came in to eat before catching the same ferry. I thought it was going to be a complete disaster. The two servers handled everything very calmly and well. Our food was very good. The vegetarian dishes were excellent and the ginger beef my wife ordered was amazing. I would not consider this a traditional Thai restaurant as they have Chinese type dishes as well as American hamburgers and fries. I think they are trying to please everyone since they are across the street from the ferry. I could rave for ages about the food here, the paeng thai curry I ordered tasted almost the exact same as the curries I've had in Thailand myself. Friendly and prompt serving staff with short and reasonable wait times as well. I can't reccommend this place enough if you're in Powell, or have some time to kill before a ferry.

If an owner or employee sees this review I would like to let them know that there was a jar of sambal ooleck I believe that was on the table for customers to use, however it was clear that the jar hadn't been cleaned recently, and several fruit flies were attracted to the sauce. As someone who has been working in restaurants for several years already I would recommend storing these complimentary sauces in the cooler until a customer chooses a table.

After a 4:15 am departure from calgary, I arrived early evening in Powell River - looking forward to relax with some Thai food and a beer. Unfortunately they were closing within 20 minutes of my arriving and so they would only let me order take out. I had to settle with having my food in my hotel with a beer I brought watching Pulp Fiction. Not what I had in mind ;) In any event, the food (yellow chicken curry) was excellent. It was a little awkward to eat with one full container of rice and another full container of yellow chicken curry, but it worked out fine. I rated service as a 3 only since they were so anxious to see my departure. Service might be fine on site, but you'd need to check that out for yourself. Food was very nice indeed and I plan to visit here again...
