The food is ok. You’re not going to go and be disappointed. It it great? No. Is it bad? No. I had the duelling enchiladas. The flavour was really nice, a little small for the price, but then they put this bowl of flavourless rice on the side of it. It just didn’t make any sense. Was I just supposed to eat the rice like that? There wasn’t enough sauce or space in my enchilada dish to mix it. Felt like a lame filler. My wife got the Veggie burrito. Also had some nice flavours in it, the yams were cooked nice, but half of the burrito was filled with that flavourless rice again. It definitely needed some salsa and guacamole. We did order a side of guacamole which really helped the dish, but that was an $3? Maybe 4? Can’t remember…of an already just ok $19.50 burrito. The burrito was also served with a handful chips, but what good are they if you have nothing to dip them in? I also ordered the horchada which was nice for the first few sips, but then it just got sweeter and sweeter to the point where it was just too much. I guess it just wants mixed well. My wife and I really enjoyed the cucumber lavender drink though. Super refreshing. Would I go back here? Maybe. It’s a pleasant setting. But I wouldn’t go out of my way.

Exceptional experience: visited Powell river for three days and went here twice! Cosy setting with Latin music playing in the background, with comfortable seating with a fire table to add to the ambience. Ordered numerous dishes over the two meals and the top hits were the Verde Muerte, a mezcal based cocktail a must have. Citrusy drink with the smokiness from the mezcal and the chili lemon salt to give that next level kick. The poblano Fritos is an amazing take on the onion rings but with the poblano pepper. The jambalaya, may not be true to its origins but the flavors were amazing. The wet burrito - it’s huge and it’s topped with an queso sauce that complimented the dish very well. And last but not least, the key lime pie, loved the combination of the key lime with the crumble and fresh cream. Ferin, our waiting staff was amazing and provided some great recommendations! The house also surprised us by treating us with the pie for my sister’s bday! A must visit.

Costa del Sol is a favourite of my wife's and me. One of the things we enjoy doing in PR is to do a sort of pub crawl where we visit 3 or 4 restaurants along Marine and have a drink and an appy at one or 2, then a drink and dinner at another, finishing the tour with a drink and desert at yet another locale. It's a fun way to sample all the amazing food that PR establishments have to offer. At Costa del Sol our go to is the always amazing and surprisingly potent Palomarita with their outstanding Poblanos Fritos (deep-fried pepper rings. They resemble onion rings). So good and a great way to start our tour off. The service is always friendly and the decor is colourful and on point.

It has been a while since I have been here and thought I would update my review from several years ago.

The service was great. The interior seating was cramped and uncomfortable; better to sit outside if you can.

The poblano fritos were outstanding as always, though the price has gone up a bit. The key lime pie was also excellent.

The chicken enchiladas, unfortunately, were simply not that good and overpriced especially considering the small portion size. They were supposed to come with two sauces, one green and one red. There was almost no sauce on mine, leaving them bland and under seasoned. The "Mexican rice" was also bland, apparently unseasoned rice.

My friend's fish tacos were ok but pricey.

I have had authentic Mexican food and cook a lot myself. It should excite your senses with a variety of bold flavors. I hope Costa starts doing that.

For me at least, I will still go back for the tasty and unique poblano appetizer. Probably...
