Monks on Marine — Restaurant in Powell River

Staff has absolutely no respect for allergies. Served my wife a meal that could have killed her after explaining allergies and making sure they could accommodate. Extremely good thing we checked. Then when I cancelled her order because I did not trust them anymore after that I noticed the staff hung by bar pointing fingers at us talking about us and staring after I cancelled her order which made us feel very uncomfortable. Lucky I don't file something more formal, as there was 4 of us that bore witness to this. The Chef even admitted their was mayo (which contained egg, her allergy) after the guy who took our order clearly wrote it down and confirmed it with us after. We did not even get an apology from the staff or the chef. Just a "yeah there is mayo", "okay" as he took it back. Absolutely unacceptable. As I know the guy wrote it down, I "feel" like it was more than likely just the chef not reading the note. Either that or the guy did not pass the information off to him. Either way it...

A Great Lunch!! Crab cakes - Delicious 🤤 They came with a little sauce and small frisée salad. Combination works wonderfully. Tamarind Beef Ribs - Tasty. Came with potato "chips", I would call them sticks with the tamarind Beef Ribs on-top, they were slightly salty, but still Very good! Then we had their Monk's on Marine Burger! We were going to "make adjustments" remove sticks and one of the meats ( pulled pork ) But after a second thought, decided to try as is. Could always separate it if too much. Well, so glad we kept it as is. Although HUGE and hard to wrap mouth around it ( cutting it works, or multiple small bites lol 😆) was very good! I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm on vacation in Powell River and I've already been here twice. The food is incredible (I had the ribs the first time and the steak sandwich the second time) and there are more things I want to try. But what matters more to me is that the service has been outstanding. I travel alone and that often means that I get seated at the table by the bathrooms or beside the kitchen and both times I came I was welcome to the patio and a table by the window. I wasn't restricted just because I was alone. Not only that but the servers are attentive, they check in to see if I need anything else or to refill my drinks and they'll have a conversation with me. I don't feel invisible the way I do at some establishments. Thanks for a wonderful experience and I'll stop in again one last time before I sail off on the rest of my journey. Keep up...
