We ordered here two nights for dinner. we opted for online ordering with curb side pick up and had it brought out to our vehicle and took to our rental. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone delish according to hubby. Macaroni and cheese was a nice surprise with its unique and delicious flavour - I had the real bacon pieces not added to the macaroni so I assume it would be even better for someone who eats bacon. The pretzel was fresh tasting so good but the side dip was a disappointment. For $9 I felt the mustard should really be a nice quality grainy mustard because the regular yellow mustard brought the overall quality of the pretzel down. The chicken bites were perfectly cooked and sweet saucy yumminess- a great appetizer.
Second night’s meal disappointed with the red curry Thai bowl. This lost a star. An unexpectedly small portion of the chicken and cauliflower served on rice. It looked and felt like half the actual curry part was missing and was all rice... not at all aligned with the $17 price. Curry was also quite bland for a Thai red curry. Probably best to stick with the BBQ sauce type dishes they serve as these sauces are full of flavour.
Hubby liked his sticky chicken bowl. The chicken wings were good - not breaded- wing and drum cooked well as we requested. We know when we are served quality poultry and appreciated it. You get flavour with chicken that hasn’t been artificially inflated . The meat had flavour. Not the fatty cheaper water bloated bland tasting wings sone other places serve.
Recommendation to diners is definitely give the sticky and bbq sauce items a try! Suggestion to this business is to fix the curry bowl with regard to...
Read moreI like to live by the whole "you get what you pay for" saying. So, when I order a $26 pesto gnocchi with a few chicken strips which was a $7 add-on, I think it's fair to assume that you're going to get an amazing meal right? That wasn't the case unfortunately. It takes a lot for me to say something is too salty. The dish was too salty. The gnocchi itself was average (I'm assuming it's not hand-made because what pub makes their own gnocchi?). I couldn't really taste the pesto much because the salt was overpowering every other flavour. Now, I'm sure some people will say "well that's what you get for ordering pasta at a pub." Fair enough. BUT, when you charge $26 for a pasta dish, I don't care if I'm eating it at a 7/11, it better be EXCEPTIONAL. And it wasn't. I believe that if restaurants are going to charge prices like that (which yes I understand...inflation, the economy, etc), then I shouldn't be given a reason to write a rant like this. Do better or lower your prices. Seriously, if the dish was $12-$15 I probably would've just given a 3-4 star overall review and left it at that. I'm typically someone who would've preferred to talk to the manager and let them know about the issue (in a respectful and personable way of course), but they aren't going to make any changes just based on my opinion. And I'm really losing patience with restaurants that are charging high prices for average food. And you (the general public) should be too! So, I have to take to google reviews. The staff were nice though so...
Read moreSuch a disappointment tonight. We were in Powell River and Coastal Cookery in 2022 and raved about the food and service so returned with family today when visiting area again and we were extremely disappointed. Firstly, only 1 carpaccio when 2 ordered, fish and chip bites ratio batter to fish 3:1…and overcooked with slightly bitter taste, with fish inside dry. ‘Bites’ were about 3 inches x 1 .5. Batter was very doughy. Reported to waitress and asked for a piece of fish from cod burger as one person at our table had it and fish and batter seemed better. Fish arrived uncooked in centre of battered fish. Thankfully, we caught it before our 89 year old mother ate it. Waitress was extremely pleasant until she tried to justify the fish bites, saying they were ‘bites’ so fish inside should be the size it was and appeared annoyed at our efforts to explain why it was unpleasant. They did comp us for the ‘bites’ meal and the extra piece of uncooked cod burger fish, which we appreciated. BBQ Chicken bites, Smash burger, carpaccio, ahi tuna stack, and summer pasta all delicious, as were the virgin Caesar’s and...
