I decided to try the restaurant based on reviews and a recommendation that I had read. I had high hopes for Beclub as the first restaurant we had gone to the night before was excellent. When we first walked in, the restaurant was lovely. There were 5 or 6 tables on the main floor and it was a very spacious but cozy atmosphere. We were told that our table was upstairs and that there may not be much space for our stroller. My husband checked it out first, and reported back that there was no problem (ample space). When we arrived on the 2nd floor, the ambiance was the same - a few tables scattered across the floor, with a fireplace going - very cozy. We were seated next to the window, and were able to squeeze in our stroller so that our 4m old could sit at the table with us. Funny enough - there was another family with a stroller upstairs as well. Maybe this is where stroller are banished to maintain their decorum downstairs. HA. I felt bad for our server given that he has to run up and down the stairs to take care of our table. He came back to take our drink orders, where we each ordered a drink and the scallops and bruschetta as apps. When he brought my drink, he had forgotten that my husband had ordered anything at all and asked if he would like to add something. We reminded him, no problem. We decided to order 3 main courses and share amongst the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids (6 and 8) since we weren't starving. We ordered the bison rib, trout with barley risotto and their version of mac n cheese. My son loved the bison and trout, while my daughter stuck with the pasta. The bison rib was fall-off-the-bone and very savoury, but very salty. The trout was cooked well and the barley risotto was surprisingly delicious. The pasta n cheese was rich and creamy and hit the right spots. Unfortunately, our server rarely made a presence other than to drop off our drinks and food. As I mentioned - he had to come up and down the stairs to take care of us, so I assume he just kind of forgot about us. He eventually came back to clear our plates so we were able to ask for our bill (in which we were told we could go downstairs to settle up). The atmosphere was lovely and very warm. But the service and food were a little lackluster for us - especially for the prices. My husband and I are not unfamiliar with fine dining and the prices that accompany it, so I feel confident in saying that I...

Note about the food... We didn’t want a huge composed meal but want something that we can share and pick at together. We shared 4 appetizers and every dish was scrumptious and left very full and satisfied.
The lapin rillettes... rich and succulent. Seasoned to perfection and spreads like a beautiful pate but with a nice firmness to it. The mustard pudding and pear purée complemented the dish wonderfully, Aw was the candies cashews.
The boar bacon with the scallop... I drool as I think back to that briny, salty goodness. The scallop was done a little longer than I’d like but to get that dark seat in both sides for that umami goodness, something’s gotta give. Granted, it was still tender. The celeriac purée, the cranberry reduction, candied cashews were really great accompaniment to both proteins.
French onion soup, the broth was phenomenal but I am old school, I guess because I prefer the croutons and cheese composed in the dish rather than decomposed, which this is.
Foie gras... came with house smoked bacon... the combination with the cranberry reduction was beyond perfect. I was tempted to ask for a bowl of the reduction, it was just THAT good.
A nice little surprise... I couldn’t imagine having dessert after so much food and turned down dessert. Our server noticed how I really wanted a little something sweet and gave us a couple of little truffles. It was just perfect to end the meal.
Wish list: Mac and cheese and smoked meat poutine. If I go back, I’ll be sure to add...
Read moreWe initially went to the BE Club Bistro and Bar as part of a food tour. As it is on a side street we wouldn’t have found it on our own, but in the brief time we were there, we knew we had to return for the full experience. We have all had food prepared by a cook or a chef, but to have food prepared by an artist is rare, and that is what Stefan, the chef/proprietor of BE Club Bistro Bar is, a true artist. A sense of calm greets you as you enter the door. It is readily apparent he has put his heart and soul into this establishment. From the peaceful music, to the use of whimsical lighting and decor, to the flashes of red you can see through the brick archway into the kitchen, every detail has been selected with care, and that is also how you will be treated. Our waiter was warm, helpful, attentive and thoughtful. From his description of the food choices to his suggestions for accompanying cocktails, it was clear he took pride in his work and truly wanted us to enjoy our evening. We began with a delightful scallop appetizer, that melted in your mouth and left you wanting for more. For our main entrees my husband had the Bison Rib which he described as succulent with robust flavors, and being one of the best meals of his life . I thoroughly enjoyed their playful twist on Mac and Cheese including the house made bacon. We gluttonously ended our meal by splitting a Poached Pear dessert that was somehow simultaneously light and decadent. Needless to say, we left feeling very fortunate to have discovered this gem of a restaurant and hope when you are in Quebec City, you do yourself a favor and make a reservation, you will not be...
