Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Relaxed yet classy. I was served on June 22 by serveuse Gala, who was a great conversationalist (at the appropriate moments) and made our experience special.
The menu is easy to navigate and Gala was happy to tell us about the specials (e.g. summer gaspacho, which I did not try today). It was my first time trying foie gras, and Gala was helpful in my decision making. The foie gras poêlé was simply delightful and plated beautifully, and I really enjoyed the contrast of richness with its accompaniment flavours and textures. Gala also made it easy to share this treat for two.
For the main course, my partner and I got the steak with vegetable accompaniment. The steak was cooked to our liking, and I particularly thought the texture on the cauliflower was nice. It was also my first time trying a celeriac purée, and when I couldn’t identify what it was, serveuse Gala was happy to answer my question by consulting with the kitchen. She even got her phone to show me a picture and translate to English! What impeccable service. Thank you for your patience Gala :)
Dessert was coffee-flavoured eclairs. Simple and delicious. There was a fruit coulis with the eclairs that was also on the earlier foie plate, which just tied everything together for me. Huge kudos to the kitchen!
This was my favourite dining experience in Quebec City. If you want charm and quality in one place, go book a reservation at...
Read moreWe spent a few days in the Old Quebec City and decided to re-visit this local restaurant as we had been here 3 years ago and absolutely loved everything about it. Three years ago it was highly recommended by a local tour guide that we randomly met on Rue St Jean. He told us then that if we are looking for authentic French cuisine food, Chez Temporel was the place to be. As in 2022, we had a great experience and the food was absolutely to divine. We had the Artichoke and Spinach Dip as an appetizer and it was amazing. So much different from all the other places we've had it before, with a completely different texture and with the warm toasted croutons, it was so delicious. We continued with the Fishermen's Pie, one of the most delicious dishes I ever had. Complemented by a fresh salad with a great "zing" added by Ginger, it was absolutely sublime. The total French atmosphere was amazing as well. So, if you really want to taste the difference and are looking for authentic French cuisine, take the few extra steps from the main strip in the Old Quebec City and enjoy this quaint restaurant. No wonder they've been in business for almost 50 years. Great food...
Read moreDined at the 6.30pm slot for the New Year’s Eve dinner today. There was absolutely no information provided prior and after our reservation was made at the restaurant that all other menu items were not available. Only a festive menu ($80) was available, and it was an exact copy of the Christmas menu. Furthermore, they disregarded the line of customers standing in the cold outside and we had to take the initiative to check-in and rush them for a table (wait was almost an hour in the cold). They had accepted too many reservations more than what they could handle. In addition, the person who created the menu has failed terribly. Expected at least a heartwarming meal for a NYE night. All we got were cold dishes that ruined our image of the restaurant given we had visited them on a normal day before.
The truffle cold soup was cold to our taste and mediocre. The duck rillette was okay, mediocre. Braised beef tortellini was salty to our taste, almost inedible. 5 spices apple crumble had nothing special to it and was extremely disappointing. There was no visible fruits too.
Overall, it made our NYE night sad and impression...
