This was a lucky stumble while we were walking up and down Quebec City. We were told to check out the Avenue Cartier for all the good places, but we stopped at Victor's on Rue Saint-Jean first and we weren't sorry.
The place is small, a bit dark (atmosphere is nice tho), but long (you won't see all the tables when you come in) and they seat you with or without a reservation. There was some confusion since it was obvious we weren't local and speaking English. :) The waiter tried his best at English though and we appreciated it since the menu was in French only.
We came for burgers, so we ordered burgers. :) Le Méditerranéen with Salade César and Le Merguez - Boar Burger with a side of Poutine. Both were delicious, flavourful, but a bit soggy from all the melted cheese. I've forgotten how it is to order a burger with cheese, since in America, that's a Cheeseburger and it's ordered separately.
Anyhow... the salad was a nice side and so was Poutine - that was a first for us. I didn't really know what to expect. Fries, yes, but had no idea how they'd go with gravy and cheese curds. To be honest, it was okay, but not something I'd order again - my personal preference that has nothing to do with this restaurant. I don't like soaked fries (with anything, not even with ketchup or mayo), so Poutine is not for me, but my husband loved it.
All in all we were very satisfied with this place. The staff was very kind and helpful, the food was delicious and it wasn't too pricey. I'd definitely come again if I ever return to...
Read moreIt was hard to find a last minute dinner reservation in Quebec City during the long weekend; we found this place via a recommendation from a local barista, and they were able to accommodate our party of 8 on short notice. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone, Mathias, was courteous and friendly, and even wound up being our server. And what an amazing array of vegetarian dishes and burger options!!! I had the l’Indien burger and my husband had the duck confit poutine; my kids had the Buffalo wing burger and minimalist burger. Everything was prepared freshly, and everyone in our group went on and on about how tasty the food was - no leftovers to take home! And no guilt, or bloated, gross, “I overate” feeling. I would highly recommended this local restaurant to any travelling vegans and carnivores alike - it’s a burger joint with so many wonderful options and healthy variations. The ambience is also super cool - cozy with brick walls and nifty tiles, very unique. I’m so happy we found this...
Read moreChez Victor is a gourmet hamburger restaurant in a quaint area of Quebec City (they have other locations within the city). The atmosphere there is quite modern and the initial small dining area near the entrance gives the restaurant a cozy feel to it. There's plenty of seating available, so it is good for big groups. We were seated quickly and served by a very nice server who responded well to casual conversation. The food itself was delicious and the wait was not too long. Chez Victor even offers vegan options. I had their poutine, which I really enjoyed because the cheese curds and fries tasted a lot better than the ones I've had in other poutines. I would recommend getting their burgers nonetheless, as their poutine is not all that extraordinary. The portions for the burgers weren't overhwelming, even though they came with fries. Chez Victor also offers a dessert menu of cakes and pies, including vegan options. They are a great way to finish off...
