Note: My star rating is for the poutine only.
The one thing I like about this place is the vibe. It's just really chill and it's a great place to drink a beer and have a poutine.
Plus, the staff made an impression and are friendly.
The poutine looks impressive and it's decent. I found it a little salty for my taste though. The fries weren't for me either.
They may be for other people, as other's seem to love this place. I really prefer the poutine at Frites Alore. I liked the smaller fries that are crispier.
You also get a huge portion. Which some may think is a positive. I think it's a little too much , even though it's a cool visual, as I'm the type to clean his plate. Also, fries are the type of food where left overs won't taste good.
They do have other things on the menu. So based on the atmosphere it may be worth a try. I may the other stuff another try if I have the chance.
Again all my QC reviews are from PreCovid in Feb 2020. So things may...
Read moreI've eaten a lot of poutine back in my home city of Winnipeg and could not wait for the chance to try this famous dish from it's origins in Quebec. I took a chance at Snack Bar St-Jean since it was near by my hotel and based on previous reviews seemed to meet all the marks of a nice casual place to eat. I ordered a "small" sized regular poutine and couldn't wait to dig in. I parked myself in the lovely enclosed outdoor patio in the back and got down to business! It featured great squeaky curds and perfectly cooked fries topped in a delicious brown sauce. The fries had a sweet natural potato taste with a slightly crisp outside (perfect in my opinion). After the first couple bites I soon realized why Quebec became famous for this iconic dish. The small portion size for me was more than enough to fulfill my poutine craving for the day. The staff were courteous and quick, if i'm back in town I will certainly pop in again to try their other...

We had an incredible meal at Snack Bar Saint Jean in Quebec City! Along with the cheeseburger, chicken burger, and French onion rings, we also tried the hotdogs with coleslaw and fries, and everything was fantastic.
The burgers were perfection — the buns seemed homemade, with just the right balance of fluffiness and crispness. The patties were juicy, the ingredients fresh and on point. The hotdog was absolutely delicious, paired perfectly with the creamy, flavorful coleslaw. The fries were crispy and golden, adding to the meal's perfection. And the onion rings? Crunchy, yummy, and just right.
This spot knows how to do comfort food right, and every bite was a treat. We’ll definitely be back to this gem on Rue Saint-Jean. Highly...
