If you’re young and a local this place would be great... but when I read other negative reviews About English tourists having issues I was not surprised.....My boyfriend and I ( who both speak french) took my parents ( who are from western Canada) to Québec city and ended up picking this place for lunch partly because the door guys were nice and welcoming. They joked about not letting our group in saying “ they’re English” to the server but we laughed and thought they were just playing around. One of the door guys sat us on the patio outside and gave us menus; our server came over and took our drink orders and we received our drinks without waiting too long. This was the point at which our server just decided to stop serving us.... we had been sitting with our menus closed for 20 minutes and no one came by to ask if we wanted to eat, if we wanted more drinks or even walked by our table at all!! we saw our server take new tables, and even bring food to people who were seated after us. My mom even tried to flag our server down with a wave and he literally looked at her and kept walking - making sure to never pass near our table. After about 45minutes with no success and now empty drinks my dad and boyfriend had to chase the server down inside ( which was completely empty and not busy) to pay. My dad paid the server without tip and when he saw this he yelled « is that all you’re giving me? » at my dad who replied that the service was horrible and had to walk out to avoid the now visibly angry server. I’ve heard about this happening to English speaking people before here and it’s totally stupid - why would you work as a server and basically lose you and your boss money just because someone doesn’t speak French?? Come on. We enjoyed a nice dinner at another place across the street where the server happily served us in both...
Read moreOverall unimpressed. We were there for 10 minutes before we asked the hostess if we had a server. She finally came out and promptly sat a group of 15 that just came in. She then came to us and we ordered beers and food. She went to the group and started taking their beverage orders. We sat another 10 minutes waiting for our drinks, where she came out and gave drinks to the large group, and then when we asked about our drinks she said the bartender was getting them. We ordered poutine as this place boasts the "Best Poutine in Town". About 15 minutes later another server brought our food. The food was luke warm, and almost no gravy. We waited for our server to come out but didn't see her. About 15 minutes later we see her and ask for the bill. I told her the food was not hot. She became defensive and said "Are you sure it was not hot', which I replied "yes". She then said I should have told her. I mentioned she never returned to us, she shrugged and mumbled something under her breath. We paid and left. There are sooo many bistros along this street, treating customers like that is bad for business. I would not...
Read moreTerrible experience here today. This was our first stop on our vacation after checking into our hotel. Ordered a gucuamole and chips & smoked meat poutine. We also got a sangria and beer. Wasn't a fan of the gucuamole, poutine and drinks were good. Waitress was very rude. From the very start she did not make conversation, smile, or even give us her name. Entire experience very slow. The worst part was when we tried to leave, the process was so slow it delayed our tour plans. The waitress took a good 10-15 minutes to provide us a reciept, and another 10 minutes to take payment (while walking by multiple times ignoring us). As we are not from Quebec -if a waitress has exceeded expectations, or is just average that is the only time we tip. We do not tip poor service. The waitress had the nerve to rudly call us out in front of the restaurant, and we almost felt harressed for a tip!! Rather then embarrass her for poor service my boyfriend just mumbled we don't tip and walked out before a further scene and argument was caused. Left us discouraged and in a bad mood about coming to Quebec for our trip. Would not recommend this to...
