We at at Ophelia during the 2nd week of December, which was our 1st visit to Quebec City. We were there for the Christmas markets but our dinner here was definitely one of the highlighta of our trip. We booked one of the outside tables in the igloos (not sure what they are called) and has an amazing experience. We were at the very end in the front and had gorgeous views, we literally felt like we were in a Hallmark movie. There was snow all around us, the building across the street was lit up beautifully with Christmas lights as were most of the other buildings and houses on this street. We were very warm, but had we gotten a chill there were blankets on the back of the chairs for us to use if needed. The food was suburb. We ordered a New York strip and a ribeye and they both were cooked to perfection. Had amazing flavor and were so tender, We didn't even need a steak knife. There are 3 or 4 different sauces you can order to go with your steak. We decided to order them all to try. We typically don't like sauces on our steaks but these were highly recommend so we trip them all. They were great and we used them for our sides but the steaks were to delicious on their own and didn't need a sauce. The drinks were also amazing, we had a cosmopolitan and a Manhattan and they both were great but the cosmopolitan was without a doubt the best we've ever had. The service was outstanding, our waiter was not only kind but extremely funny and also gave us some good tips on things to do and see in the area. We were there on a Saturday night, so it was extremely crowded but you couldn't tell since we were setting outside and the service was very fast considering how crowded it was. We loved that the menus had French on one side and English on the other. The desserts were also amazing. We didn't have one complaint whatsoever about the entire night at Ophelia. It was definitely one of the best dinners we've ever had and by far the most amazing atmosphere, getting to sit outside in the "igloo". We had made reservations about two or three months ahead of time, I highly recommend making reservations as soon as possible If you want to eat outside in one of the igloos. FYI, if you have trouble walking or can't easily bend over, You may not want to book the igloo. You have to bend down to get in the door, it's not super tiny, my 6'3" husband was able to bend down and get in with no problems, but I could see it being difficult if you can't bend well or have any mobility issues. On our next trip to QC We will definitely be making reservations at...
Read moreThis is by far the best dining experience I’ve had and I’m not exaggerating! The service and food were excellent. Ophelia checked all the boxes of a “good fine dining restaurant” right away, and then went above and beyond on multiple levels. I’ve rarely if ever had better service at a restaurant. Our server was there before we realized we wanted him, was amicable and extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, as well as generally being friendly and pleasant to converse with. He was never overbearing and my partner and I both felt relaxed and as though our having a positive experience was of the highest importance. Unfortunately our server’s name is escaping me, but they had an exquisite dark mustache. They even overheard us mentioning that we were celebrating our engagement and surprised us with some amazing macaroons and a local Quebec liqueur for dessert. This review is running long but I have to spend a few words (too few) mentioning the creative and extremely well executed menu. My partner and I split the bufala mozzarella and the scallop ceviche starters. Both were incredible, but the scallops especially stood out for their creativity. Really, when I was eating the scallops is when I realized whoever was in the kitchen had an extremely creative culinary mind as well as a smart palate able to balance flavors or citrus, savory, sweet, and spicy all in one very unique dish. The entrees continued to impress. I had the cod with polenta and my partner had the filet with shrimp. I tasted the filet and shrimp and was impressed with the quality of the ingredients as well as the cook on the filet. The cod dish though really blew my mind. The polenta, holy cow the polenta. It was cooked with pancetta so the fat rendered with the polenta and served as a wedge underneath the cod on the plate. The cod was still the star of the dish but really the polenta was the genius behind the scenes. Ok I have to stop writing. Do yourself a favor and go to Ophelia, I’ve never taken this long to write a review for anywhere before and i don’t regret giving the time and energy to this restaurant to do so now. Also if the management of Ophelia reads this, you’re mustachioed server is fantastic and helped to make my partner and I guaranteed return...
Read moreWe came in for a party of 3 yesterday at 8:30 p.m. Our server was very bad and had his hands in his pockets all the time, like he didn’t care. He was really out of place. You don’t expect to have a server this disinterested and nonchalant in a high end restaurant like this. When we told him that the service was very slow and that our table looked invisible to him, he told us that this isn’t a McDonalds. Well when you have a parking to get back to and that the server didn’t even bring you glasses of water after 10 minutes and that the table that arrived after you is already served, you have the right to be impatient. After that, he was condescending and insulting with us. You could even see him badmouthing us and pointing us when talking at his colleagues. I have never been treated this badly by a server before. He even had the gall to ask us if we were from Lac Saint-Jean and treated us like we were some kind of freaks, asking us this 3 times after we had already told him that we were from Montreal. This was really an horrendous service. Thanks for the manager for keeping us for desserts afterwards, but I won’t be coming back because I really don’t want to see this server ever again. I know that restaurant personnel is hard to find, but this guy really shouldn’t be serving people, because your clients won’t be coming back if they’re served by him. The hostess was a thousand times more professional than him, and she should definitely be serving people, because she looked the part and looked happy to be there. Stick the clown in the kitchens or for...
