We had the opportunity for a belated anniversary dinner and wanted the kind of fine dining experience you find in towns like Banff and Canmore - 53 On Ross did not disappoint! The space is so beautiful and peaceful, what a joy to sit and relax and actually be able to hear the person talking across from you. We made a reservation and we were seated promptly. Our server was absolutely excellent! Polite, funny, attentive (without hovering) and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the Texan Triple 9 entree - OMG. It might be the best pasta I've ever eaten (and it's handmade!). The beef was melt in your mouth tender, I can honestly say I've never had a plate of pasta with this kind of flavour profile, I could eat it for every meal of every day. We shared the New Beginnings strawberry cheesecake for dessert - playing was stunning, and the taste - wow. Best cheesecake I've had in Red Deer. Now, I have two small critiques, and it's the only reason this is not a solid 5 star review. My first criticism is regarding the Easily Handled burger (apologies if I got that name wrong). My husband had the burger, I tried it, it wasn't my favourite, I think maybe the meat needed some extra seasoning, and it could've been a bit hotter? It was luke warm. I'm not a chef but any means, but for my tastes, it wasn't for me (or for him). The fries were delicious though! My second small criticism is about the cocktails, not the taste but rather the cost. I had the Arctic Clarity and for $17.00 I did expect a larger portion...it does say on the menu it's 2oz but I figured that was the amount of alcohol, not the amount of liquid in the entire drink. The drink was lovely, but the cost is a bit prohibitive in terms of enjoying more than one (which I would have loved!). I think if the price point was more around the $13-$14 range it would still give the feeling of a high-end cocktail but the price would be just low enough to entice a patron to enjoy more than one. That said though, we had a lovely experience and we're so glad we chose 53 On Ross for our belated anniversary dinner. We'll be...

Once he arrived, we decided to sit on the patio again, not busy !!!! the waitress came and took our order. we went thru with her twice to make sure it was right and to make sure it was gluten-free. We ordered seoul food ,Allium Yoru , one special which was sole and a gustreau's pantry. After 25 minutes, she brings us the gustreau and allium yoru . She even ask us if this order was ours ..I asked her what happened to the other appetizer and my fish she looked at me like she had no clue what I was asking her she stood there looking at me like I had 2 heads and couldn't say nothing I said were went thru our order twice with you said she missed understood Really ???? She ask me if I wanted to order some more food. I said no, obviously you forgot my order. We were so hungry that my son and myself split the meal that we received I went to the bathroom and saw the owner at the bar ask her if the waitress was ok because she was totally clueless about our order and didn't look OK and i mention she forgot To order half our meal ..the owner was as confused as I was ! Even the manager walked by, very confused that half my meal was never ordered. I even expressed to her how much I was looking forward to be eating in her establishment from a tour I did with the city of Red Deer. She ask me of I wanted to order more food I told her I was still hungry and at this point the experience to have a good meal and celebrate my son birthday was done and it will be faster to get a couple tacos at taco loft .One girl came to apologize to my son, and that was the end of an evening.I never in my life had experience like this!very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary, 53 On Ross had several very positive reviews and so we thought we'd give it a try. We made a reservation, arrived on time, we were seated right away, there were maybe 4 other parties in the restaurant. We ordered a couple of cocktails, perused the menu and put in our order and we waited. Tables all around us were being served, tables that arrived after us were being served. The waitress brought the wine that we ordered to go with our meal, but no meal. And we waited. After some more waiting the waitress came to our table and she asked us if we were interested in dessert. 'Dessert!? We haven't had our main yet!' She mumbled some sort of apology and left. We waited just a little bit longer and finally left after an hour of waiting. Before leaving we spoke with the person in charge and expressed our disappointment with the whole dining experience. There were no explanations offered, just a cursory apology. When we arrived the atmosphere was promising, but that didn't last long. The service was not good. Unfortunately, I can't rate the quality of the food as it was never served. Had a reasonable explanation been offered for the poor service we could maybe understand this slight and be forgiving as sometimes things happen. But as it stands now, we won't likely be making a reservation again...
