Best Donair in town forever!!!!

I'm 250 pounds and always as hungry as a bear. Even on an empty stomach, I cannot finish a regular MEDIUM donair (they have a large size too). The meat is not only generous but some of the finest, heartiest and most authentic Lebanese food I have ever tasted.

This shop belongs to a wonderful man and his family, who started the first donair shop in Alberta and eventually opened the first ever donair shop in Red Deer. You could say he pioneered this style of cuisine in Alberta. A man who has been serving Alberta (& me) with Donairs, Gyros & Shawarmas since the early 90's when I was just in diapers.

Which is why I was so sad to learn he was recently deceased. However, I am here to inform you he lives on through his family and the generous portions, authentic taste and sense of hospitality has not and will never change.

My wife and I stopped in here for lunch while we were downtown Red Deer. We had driven by this place probably a hundred times but we finally had a chance to go in. I got a medium beef donair with all the fixings. They have sweet, tzatziki, and garlic sauce. Usually at donair places I get both sweet and tzatziki, but I got the sweet and garlic. The helping was huge. I a am 6' 2" and 205 lbs and I can eat quite a bit, and the medium donair filled me up. The portion of meat was very generous and tasty, with out much spice heat to it. The lettuce and veggies were fresh and cold and crisp. Overall it was a delicious lunch. As to the location it does look a little run down. It needs a thorough cleaning in the corners where a standard regular clean would miss. A fresh coat of paint would liven the place up quite a bit. I had done my homework the previous night and noted the good reviews on Sam’s Donair so I talked my mom into trying this place out as I am on holidays and don’t have many opportunities to get a donair in the North. I ordered a large beef donair and my mom had the regular. When I went to pick them up at the counter my jaw almost hit the floor. The donairs were huge and I knew it was going to take a great effort to finish them off. We both tried our best but had enough left over for an afternoon snack. These donairs tasted great as we had the sweet sauce on them however I did read that some people like a mix of sweet with the garlic. It doesn’t matter what sauce you put on these, you cannot find a better donair shop anywhere! Staff were extremely friendly and smiley, and the store and washrooms were very clean.
