I went to Chop last night and sat in the lounge. The atmosphere, staff, managers etc were all beyond friendly which was amazing. But I get the feeling that our table was unlucky with the server we had. She was terrible. She was b**y, rude, and slow. There were a number of times when our party of 6 were sitting stuck at our table waiting for our server to take another drink order for us. I admit it was semi busy in there at the time we were there. But looking around and watching where our server was going it looked as though she only had 2 other tables the entire night we were there. We had heard of a birthday special if it was your birthday (2 in our party had birthdays that day) and we asked her about it and she was saucy back with us as to how she had it handled. Comforted with the fact that she was aware of promotions was nice, but when it came to the bill nothing had been done about said birthday appetizer on the house and free dessert. Although those things are not the end of the world, it would have been nice if the server was more professional about the whole matter. The manager on duty stopped by our table after and chatted and was beyond personable and very friendly and accommodated for our server's mistakes.
Upon leaving the restaurant, two of us had our coats hung up at the hostess stand, we were caught with our pants down as to where anyone could be to find our coats. After waiting about 10 minutes we noticed a closet behind the stand and took initiative to grab our coats ourselves and leave.
Having said all of that, the food here is delicious and I would recommend it to everyone. The drinks are delicious. The staff is friendly (except for the lemon we got). The place overall is very comfortable and I will go back, but keeping my experience in mind I...

It was a busy night. Good atmosphere. It was obvious the staff were busy. The service was understandably slower than expected.
The decor is a nice break from the typical Regina windowless steakhouse scene. I've always wondered what happens at the Diplomat or the Cottage when the power goes out... How do the clientèle see themselves out? Oil based lanterns? The flame from fried cheese? Or do the eyes of old Prime Ministers' light up and guide the way? A question for another time...
What impressed me most was what happened when the manager at Chop came out from the kitchen to inform two of my friends that the steaks they had ordered had been overdone. This issue was picked up before the steaks were even brought to the table. Good quality control measures. The remaining members of our party had already received our meals.
In a gesture to make things right, the manager offer my friends the option of any appetizer, free of charge, to apologize for the delayed meals. Apology accepted, appetizers ordered, and the night moved on.
The missing steaks and free appetizers showed up within 5 minutes.
It's refreshing to know that there are still some places out there willing to acknowledge an issue with service and do what they can to correct it. This makes the customer want to return.
And to top it all off, the steak...
Read moreFood was ok, not great , we both ordered the sirloin and the steaks that were served were not the same size or thickness. The meat was average grocery store quality. I didn’t think the meat was aged either or particularly flavourful (the restaurant touts their special meat preparation process for their steaks in the menu ) . The meat also was grizzly, I had to spit a piece out because I couldn’t chew it. The steak is served with seasonal vegetables and choice of side. I got the mashed potatoes and it was ok, the seasonal vegetables were bok choy and it was fine but the beet was under cooked. The service was fine, and the atmosphere, because we sat on the patio was noisy from loud vehicles driving by on two busy streets the restaurant is a corner on. It was a Monday night and their were lots of tables open. They close at 10pm. The bill was 100 for 2 people, for 2 beers and 2 steaks and a 6 dollar tip I had a gift card I got from work. I had higher expectations for chop and it did not live up to them. Money would be better spent on nice steaks from a butcher shop and cooked at home but for special occasions because you have to dress up and spend a lot of money it’s better to go some place nice to eat out but I don’t recommend chop for that either because if you’re gonna spend 50-100+ a plate try some...
