Sorry.. it's going to be long!
Pros! Beds were plush and comfortable. Front desk staff, beyond amazing. The way this hotel runs makes their jobs more difficult than necessary yet they all always had a smile on their face and they were always quick to assist. The front desk staff is the only reason we're giving an extra star here! The water curtain is cool, I'll give them that!
Now for the bad. Unfortunately every low rating that I've read through is completely accurate.
Starting before check in! They send sooo many emails saying that if you have a request phone or email. I emailed due to timing, and I sent it almost a week in advance of our 3 night stay. I never heard back but figured that's ok, it was a silly request anyways.. would have made our stay but, no big deal. Sent an email at 4 am the morning we would be there (12 hour trip) requesting a slightly early check in but never heard back (So don't email, lesson learned!) Oh! PS, in case you missed it, they don't have a free breakfast (for the price, you could definitely offer even simple pastries or something.. really). We noticed that though, and made sure to take a cooler with breakfast stuff in it that just needed to be heated up.
It gets better! We booked a decent amount of time in advance but obviously, I feel, they book rooms in order, we had a waterslide view room and had the first room out of the elevator. We walked in to footprints coming in from the balcony, because they were infront of the ac.. they felt wet (there was a few actual wet ones leading into the bathroom but they ended up drying so we know they were definitely wet!) - we called to ask and were told that's normal for that room (stained with something obviously) and would we like a different room. I said I had too much stuff to move so no. Room was pretty dusty too I realized.
On to the pool! Waterslides are fun for the kids for sure but boy do they get busy! Also.. pool? Not so much. Hottub? Overcrowded 90% of the time (same as the 'pool'). They have a wristband entry system.. there were two of us, we only received one wristband. The first 2 days, not a problem.. the third day we got very rudely turned away (quick trip to the front to get one.. but for people with sensory issues.. this idea sucks!) - we understand it's to keep non paying guests out but there has to be a better way. Again, for the price.. I don't appreciate feeling like a criminal. Speaking of wristbands.... many MANY people in the pool didnt have them.. yet after that time WE were asked Every. Single. Time. Again...not very nicely either (even though we did have them now).
Let's stick with the pool area for a moment. At times there is staff and at times there isnt. When there is, I would expect there to be a bit more policing of rules instead of having two of them just kind of standing in that staff area. There were young (like 4 years old) kids completely unsupervised with spray guns in the hottub spraying people, falling etc. Toys on waterslides, and people (mostly kids) not following any of the many rules posted everywhere. Little frustrating for sure. Our second night, the lights/spray pad area were never turned on (we watched until 10pm).. a little unfortunate. And seeing as that was a Friday, I thought for sure they would be on.. we waited in our room for quite awhile for it to turn on and then gave up.
The rooms? You have to ask the front desk for EVERYTHING! So.. you don't supply breakfast but.. also no microwave? We didnt see that one when we booked.. you can ask for one though. We also had to request, a second facecloth, ice, coffee, cups, sugar.. and I'm sure there was more. I've never in my life felt more needy and felt so bad for bugging the front desk sooo much!
Ps.. housekeeping completely ignores the do not disturb sign! 830 wake up call (when you're up until 10 in those rooms due to noise). and trying to come in while I'm showering was the icing on the cake. But.. I did get a whopping $25 discount on checkout 🤦♀️
I'm sure there's more but I've run out of room.
Will...
Read moreNot only are the walls paper thin so you can hear every intimate detail of the conversations in the hallway and between your neighbours, you also get to experience mysterious water puddles on the window sills, wet carpet, peeling wallpaper, and a plugged sink. Did I tell the staff to get a different room? No. And let me tell you why. Upon booking my stay months in advance for a relative’s wedding, I asked if an early check in would be possible that day because I’m coming from out of town for the wedding with a toddler. I was told yes of course just call a week or so ahead and confirm. I instead sent an email the Monday before the stay and was told they can’t say for sure but to call a few hours before on the day of and inquire. So I did that and was told that a note was made on my file that an early check in requested and that the room was prioritized and they were currently working on it but to call 15-30 minutes before. Well, [wrongfully] assuming I’d have access to a room to change in, I wasn’t wearing my formal attire for the wedding. I called just one more time to see if I could get into the room and was told no it wasn’t ready. So instead of getting ready in a room like a normal person, I had to get dressed in the parking lot in my vehicle. So fine, there was no other option so I just went with it and attended the wedding (at this hotel mind you) and tried to get an early check in after the ceremony. Was again told no it’s not ready. So we sat in the lobby of the hotel trying to figure out what to do and was fortunate enough to have family let us use their room temporarily. We ended up leaving and going for a drive because there was nothing else to do between the ceremony and the supper, hoping that we would get a call that the room was ready like they said they would do. Finally, my parents were able to get into their room so I thought great my room will be ready too! Especially now since it’s after 4PM GUARANTEED CHECK IN… Well much to my disappointment, I was told that my room was still not ready. I know it isn’t the front desk receptions fault so I kept my cool but I told the employee working that we have been given the runaround since before 1 today and at this point I would appreciate ANY room. The employee was able to switch me to another room which was extremely appreciated. So after all that, was it worth calling the front desk to complain about things wrong with the room? No. Would they have another room to move to readily available? Highly doubt it. The water park was fun for my toddler, but I don’t think the big extravagant water park warrants an almost $200 a night charge for a basic hotel room with cosmetic and plumbing issues. This whole situation really put a damper on the entire weekend and my family couldn’t get out of there fast enough in the morning. According to the screen in the lobby showing events and where they were located within the hotel, there was 2 weddings and a couple other meetings taking place at the hotel that weekend. We also heard from another guest that there were 2 or 3 hockey teams as well as a volleyball team staying at the hotel that weekend. We were told by the staff that there were many late checkout requests they had to deal with that day, to which I suggest maybe coordinating that better so that guests that are booked in the wedding block for the celebration that is happening at the hotel be prioritized over late checkouts as the ceremony started at 2PM. All in all, the staff were friendly, but I will not be going out of my way to stay at this hotel again. Not worth the money or...
Read more3 night stay in a Business Club King room. The room is quiet and spacious. There are no drawers for your clothes, just a long desk to place things on. A luggage rack is not provided in the room and must be requested. You can also request a sound machine and other amenities at no extra charge.
The food at The Dish restaurant was tasty, good portion sizes, and staff were attentive. The kids menu has creative names for the dishes which adds some unexpected fun.
Soaked Waterpark has something for all ages. My tweenager liked the two water slides and water wall, my toddler liked the toddler area and bubblers, and I liked the hot tub which was a great temperature and when sitting went up to the top of my shoulders. Life jackets are provided for infants and children. It was busy, but never felt crowded and the staff never ran out of towels.
The lobby has free coffee in the morning and both ice water and fruit infused water in the afternoon and evening. Cups are provided or you can refill your own mug/bottle.
We had good experiences at the restaurant and water park. Our room/stay was not a positive experience. I called ahead of time and let the hotel know we would be arriving later in the evening after 9:30 pm. There was no communication from the hotel during the call or at check in that the linens for the pull out couch are not provided and must be requested. Once I called it took the hotel over an hour to deliver the linens for the bed which delayed putting very tired kids to bed. Housekeeping service is by request and even though I requested service two days in a row no one came to service our room, which was an issue since there was a toddler and the garbage bins needed to be changed. The prepaid breakfast is not considered part of the room service menu so the hotel will not deliver the food to your room, you either dine at the restaurant or pick up. We had no heat in our room and the outside temperature was below freezing over night. Maintenance came and after checking the heat/ac unit advised it was not working so the hotel provided a small heater which did not provide sufficient heat and was not safe to be used around a toddler.
On the final night of our stay I brought my concerns to the attention of the night manager and made it clear that based on our experience we would not stay at the hotel again. He listened and then went above and beyond to try and make things right. I appreciate the effort made and it changed our experience from a negative stay to one where I would be willing to stay there again and give the hotel a...
