Who doesn’t love ice cream..... but when it comes to vegan or gluten free ice cream there aren’t much left for one! Not to worry, dandy’s got so many vegan, GF flavours to choose from that’s one gets confused! There flavours are always so great and unique. Knowing that they are locally made tops it. Great way to support your local business while enjoying delicious and yummy in every bite ice cream. I have tried five flavours so far (toasted coconut, coconut ash honeycomb, espresso almond biscotti, strawberry shortcake and vanilla bean) and all of them are delightfully delicious flavour. Not to mention about toppings and the home made syrups which again are available in vegan and GF choices as well. The sitting is so mordant and peaceful. It’s is a unique dine in experience for everyone. The staff is also so friendly and helpful. This place is even good for someone who wants to spend some time or people wants to have meeting or just for friend night out for a quick snack. They are amazing for a cheat day or just a treat day. They have kids scoop, single and double scoops as well as pints for people like me who loves to enjoy them at home too. They also have coffee and other handmade beverages as well. I’ve been three times and I really want to like it...I just don’t. I tasted four different flavours last visit and finally just went with one cause it was getting awkward to keep asking for samples, but I didn’t really care for any of them. I almost never even get samples, but I figured I’d been burned by my choice twice before. Between all the samples and my choices from the two other visits it’s always been the same problem...they are so, so, so sweet. The PB and J French Toast one was the first sample I tried last visit; it was the taste equivalent of jumping into a cold lake. It was actually a shock to the system it was so sweet. I love ice cream. I love GOOD ice cream and I will gladly pay more for it! If I see a Nestle or Chapman’s sign, I’m a hard pass on the place. So I like the idea of Dandy’s and some of their flavours, but there is just not much nuance or balance to them. The flavours are heavy handed and overly confected. Sincerely wish them the best, but after the third round, I think I’m throwing in the towel. 😕 I understand the recipe developer is well trained, but I would ask them to consider if their palate tends towards the sweet and maybe adjust some flavours down? For reference, some of the best ice cream places I have tried in recent travels are Parachute ice cream in Victoria, and Ice Cream and Shop(pe) in Palm Springs. Elevated flavours, but not so cloying.
