Where do I start? Firstly, this restaurant is located on the intersection of 16th/Leslie (right beside Magic Noodles). You would come in to order, and then find a seat afterwards. The staff was very freiendly in assisting me and answering whatever questions I had about the food. The menu features a good selection of Gyudons (beef rice) and as well as other rice dishes such as Unagi/ Chicken Teriyaki Don, curry dishes, and appetizers. For most of their rice dishes, you can choose from Reg-Jumbo.
Coming for a tasting event, I had the amazing opportunity to try their summer menu: Gyudon with egg/scallions: Wow, the beef was very soft and tasty. I’ve tried other gyu (beef) before and sometimes it would be to dry/ not as soft. The egg was a very nice touch as it was perfectly cooked to the point the yolk would explode and drizzle all over your rice (mix it together!) Okonomiyaki ($7.49): I loved how soft and flavourful it was. You can definitely tell that it was made fresh as frozen things wouldn’t be as juicy in comparison to something fresh. The portion size is good, and was soft enough to easily cut into. Chicken Karaage ($4.99): Definitely can tell that this dish is freshly made because the chicken was juicy, but also it was fried just right. I’ve tried this dish at other restaurants and I’ve experienced times where it was abit too burnt, or wasn’t as juicy as Kome Shokudo’s. Tebasaki/ Chicken Wings ($4.99): As comparable and fresh as the chicken karaage. Was fried to perfection and had enough taste from their sauce/ spices they used. -Gyudon Sandwich ($6.89) & Katsu Sandwich ($8.49): If you thought their gyu was good, wait till you have it in a sandwich. It becomes a totally different dish (in a good way!) Just imagine, fresh soft beef in a soft bun (from Japan!). The Katsu was equally as juicy and tender, and worked so well together as a sandwich.
They are doing a Megalodon challenge where you have to finish a big bowl of Gyudon at 1:1 ratio within 30 mins. It costs $80 to enter, however if you finish, you will receive it for free + $200 Komo Shokudo gift card. Make sure to call in one day ahead if you decide to take this challenge!
Thank you Kome Shokudo for the amazing opportunity and I definitely will return to have some more...
Read moreI dine-in at Kome a few years back and ordered the Gyudon and remembered it being pretty good and affordable. It reminded me of Japan, how you order and pay for the food first then grab a seat and the server brings you the food after. It was a clean establishment and friendly staff.
Back to present day, Hubby & I was looking for a last minute take out dinner option and decided to try Kome again as it's very close to our house. I called in advance to place an order for pick up, 3 Gyudons, 1 Curry Katsu and 1 Ramen bowl, the lady on the phone told me 10 - 15 mins. Sent my brother in law to pick it up and it was ready when he got there (probably took him 10 minutes to arrive). So if you're looking for fast and affordable this would be the place.
[Gyudon] I got 1 regular Gyudon and 2 regular Gyudon with spring egg and I find that it was the perfect size and for $9.99 pretty worth. The meat and rice ratio was good, every bite had a balance of rice and meat. The only thing is, I wish it had a bit more sauce.
[Curry Pork Katsu Rice] Got the large order of this, and they are very generous with the meat. It was still crispy even for take out (but keep in mind, I only live about 10 minutes away). Curry flavour is very mild.
[Spicy Miso Ramen] I ordered the regular with Chicken Karaage, it comes with half an egg but I decided to add another half egg making it one full egg. The ramen was disappointing, the noodles were soggy and broth was not very spicy and tasted almost like instant noodles... The chicken karaage was good and so was the egg but overall I would not order or recommend...
Read moreI recently revisited this place after having tried their mega bowl challenge about few years ago. This time, I came for a regular dinner and noticed some changes. The restaurant now operates like a fast-food spot, where you order and pay first, and surprisingly, a cat-themed serving robot delivers your food. I ordered the Large Gyudon with Scallion and Hot Spring Eggs, along with Spicy Chicken Karaage. While the overall flavors didn’t blow my mind, the food was consistent and well-prepared. The eggs were perfectly made, and the beef and rice had a good balance of portions and flavor and no complaints there. The Spicy Chicken Karaage was crispy and well-seasoned, though I wish there was an option for larger size. Overall, it was a solid meal that I wouldn’t hesitate to grab again if I’m in the area. That said, the serving robot left me a bit confused. Without any clear indicator or confirmation, I was unsure if the food it brought was mine. A system to verify this would definitely improve the experience. Additionally, while the ordering process was straightforward, I felt the cashier could have been a bit more proactive in explaining how things work, especially for first-time or returning customers unfamiliar with the new setup. Despite these minor hiccups, the consistency of the food and the unique dining experience make this place worth a visit. It gets a pass mark from me, and I wouldn’t mind stopping by again if I’m in the...
