There is no better way to start a day than breaking into the best, freshly baked croissants. Duo cafe is the second outpost of their patisserie in Richmond Hill. This location is much larger and has slightly different offerings than their Commerce Valley location. Here you'll find plenty of sweet and savoury options. This location specializes in frozen desserts such as soft serve ice cream with rotating flavours, take home pints as well as ice cream cakes for those special occasions.
Upon entering you'll instantly smell the freshly baked pastries. They have a large display of pastries, macarons, sandwiches and more. There's a lot a variety of goodies that are great as gifts. I've heard good things about their croissants and had to try it myself.
The croissants have a golden sheen with crisp exteriors and a soft and fluffy interior. Not to mention it's quite buttery. I also tried got a bichon which is a flaky pastry with lemon cream. Similarly to their croissants, the bichon is buttery but is balanced out with the lemon cream, adding just the perfect amount of brightness and zing to start your day. But the real reason why I came here was to try their strawberry oolong ice cream. I was a little disappointed mine came out a little lopsided. Taste wise I felt I tasted more strawberry than oolong, but the strawberry flavour wasn't as strong as I had hoped so I'd stick with their baked goods instead.
If this place isn't already on your radar, you should definitely check it out. Come early as they do sell...

Duo Café, offers both dine-in and take-out options, catering to a variety of preferences. Firstly, their soft serve and pastries are a delight. These items stand out for their quality and taste, making them a must-try for anyone visiting the cafe. Furthermore, the matcha latte deserves special mention. Its strong and delicious flavour sets it apart from the usual fare, offering a rich experience for matcha enthusiasts.
However, a point of consideration arises with their pistachio ice cream cake, particularly when ordered for special occasions like birthdays. While the cake itself is delicious, its unique composition requires attention. It's designed to be enjoyed with all its layers combined, rather than individually. This aspect might not appeal to everyone, as it demands a specific approach to savouring the cake.
In summary, Duo Café provides a satisfying experience with its range of offerings. The quality of their soft serve, pastries, and beverages like the matcha latte is commendable. However, when it comes to their pistachio ice cream cake, patrons should be aware of its distinctive layering, which is best enjoyed in...
Read moreDuo is one of my absolute favorite bakeries — everything I’ve tried there has been delicious. But what really sets them apart isn’t just the bread or pastries (which are already great) — it’s their French-style cakes and tarts. If you’re looking for something a bit more special — not your typical sponge cake, but something more refined and patisserie-style — this is the place.
Their large-format tarts are next level. Rich, flavorful, beautifully made — truly one of the best I’ve had. And don’t even get me started on their ice cream — also amazing.
They also serve a coconut latte that I absolutely love — but fair warning, it’s very small for the price. Honestly, I always feel like I need a second coffee afterward (hello, Starbucks). Still, it tastes fantastic — smooth, fragrant, and totally worth trying at least once.
Yes, prices are high, but this is one of the rare spots where I actually think the quality justifies the price. It’s the kind of place I keep going back to, and every time I do, I feel like it’s money well spent.
If you’re into baked goods and elegant desserts, Duo Duo is one of the best around...
