During a regular day, a prepaid, preorder, with a wait of 90 minutes is unacceptable. During a lockdown (pandemic - COVID-19), with a preorder directly from their website, prepaid, confirmed on the phone twice, and more than 5 hours ahead, is appalling and irresponsible. The point of preordering and selecting preset time slots for pick up is to avoid line ups and a crowd of people, and also allows for sufficient social distancing. What happened here puts everyone there at risk and also when you’ve already pre paid $212 for the meal, you’re not going to just walk off and go somewhere else. We did a preorder for Lunar New Year but when we arrived to pick up the food, we waited 90 minutes before we received the food. There was a long line up of over 15 people waiting outside, no instructions or separate lines for take out vs preorder vs delivery services. The phone lines were going straight to voicemail. When my husband asked the lady where his order was at the 80 minute mark, she asked him why he didn’t tell her sooner, but he did at the 40 min mark where he was given a receipt with our online order number and a new handwritten queue number (which she didn’t explain what it was or why there was a second number). She gave him a simple apology and advised the food is almost ready. It seems they were jumping to make food for people that were complaint first rather than the time orders are supposed to be ready or if the customer has arrived. Needless to say, we will not be coming back. The food was ok, but after that long of a wait, it was just bitter. It ruined our Lunar New Year dinner. Our baby had missed time with her father as she had to...
Read moreMy cousin was in town from Hong Kong for a visit and this resto was close by so us and some extended family came for a thursday night dinner (we got the private side room).
There's plenty of parking as the resto is standalone and has a dedicated lot.
Price-wise this place is pretty good. They are probably on the affordable compared to their York region counterparts so you might find good value eating here.
I do think quality-wise it still kinda lacks something.
The peking duck we ordered was one of the smallest ducks I think I've ever witnessed. The duck slices were tiny and had me wondering if we just got the runt of the litter. The duck lettuce wraps that are supposed to utilize the remainder of the duck carcass meat also came with a very small portion of duck meat. They gave us a ton of crepes for the peking duck (ironically it was paper thin and one of the best wraps in recent memory) and also a ton of lettuce for the duck meat wraps.
The curry crab was pretty tasty I'll admit. It's not gonna beat curry crab at like Saigon Star but it's way cheaper and the taste was very solid.
I do appreciate that for the beifongtang lobster prep they give you the fried fishies at the bottom of the plate instead of fries (which Lobster Port and Fishman do now).
Pumpkin sago wasn't very good. Wayyy too much starch used. The consistency was really gloopy and if you hadn't told me it was pumpkin I would NOT have known as there wasn't even the faintest taste of pumpkin imo.
My family usually comes here with the cousins from time to time for convenience. It's not our first choice for canto food in York region but it gets the job done for...
Read moreRecently the last 2 times we went we received really bad service. Not all servants were bad but a few of the female servants behavior significantly overrided the nice waiters/waitress. 1st incident this waitress stood right beside us waiting for us to collect our change while we were busy packing our left overs... but she was basically telling us how much tip we should leave. It was so awkward that another waitress overheard and said wow she asking for more tips again?
2nd incident we arrived at 4:50pm so we could overlap afternoon tea and dinner menu. Around 6ish a waitress came wanting to pack our food but some of my family members were still eating. Then one of my family members hear her whisper to another waitress asking why we taking so long to eat. Not sure when Mr. Congee had a time limit to eat, but even AYCE places atleast give 90 min to eat. We have 7 ppl, so I guess we were holding one of their big tables. Around 6:20pm we ask for the bill and immediately 3 female waitress bombarded us and came to start packing our left overs and clean our table. One waitress again was solely waiting for us to collect the change which pressured us to quickly leave. They did not even provide us or offer us complimentary dessert.
After leaving, we realized they short changed us atleast $10. At the moment, the type of pressure they put on for us to leave made it difficult for us to clearly look at the bill. After these 2 incidents, no matter how good the food is, it's not worth it. Also there is a lot of competition in the area now so don't need...
