Pros: Pretty decent Taiwanese noodles. There was a nice selection of noodle and broth choices. The side dishes (xialongbao 小龍包) and beef wrap were also quite homey. Taste was good and not as salty as some of the other reviewers have ntoed. The wait was not too long despite the lunch rush. Well done. Location is also nice inside Aberdeen mall with parking and washrooms.
Cons: Only reason this is four stars and not five stars is some of the weird behaviour from the host/usher fellow. After having us sanitize and wrote down our contact info, he rushed to the table and waited for us impatiently there, even though my wife is pregnant and cannot walk that fast. When my wife and I sat down he gave us one cup of hot water and one cup of tea. When we sat down opposite of the seating arrangement he expected, he then switched the cups of tea and water around without any explanation, so we had to ask the next server for more tea. Also, I was speaking Cantonese to him the whole time but he kept speaking Mandarin and English in response, whereas I saw him speaking Cantonese with other guests, which was...
Read moreOrdered take out on March 2. Was charged 50c “container fee.” When I told her I am ordering take out and not dining in she won’t make any effort and keep referring me to the sign and saying it is a new Richmond bylaw since 2022. I understand you are charged a container fee if you dine in and decide to take the leftovers to go but when you order take out from the get go that fee should not be added. She kept repeating it was Richmond policy. When I mimicked same order from Skip and showed it to her, they do not charge a container fee so what gives? When I ask to speak to a manager I was told there is none and manager will only be on duty tomorrow. I guess you’re better off ordering pick up from Skip so you do not have to pay the container fee and the restaurant will earn less considering they have to give some commission to Skip. Try to support Canadian business they say. Well I tried but obviously that didn’t work. Please educate your employees and stop acting like robots! Customer service...
Read moreNot as good as it used to be; came in twice within the last 3 months just to double check (during non peak weekday hours in case too many customers had an influence).
Broth is watered down enough that you don’t see any “grease spots” even though they advertise “we use premium beef for soup stock” on their menu; I can only taste soy sauce.
Noodles are hand made and has that “raw flour” taste which I liked. But unfortunately it’s not as chewy as you would expect from a handmade noodle place. You can probably taste some flavour from the soy sauce of the soup if you concentrated hard enough, but could’ve been much better had the soup base been more flavourful/less watered down.
Luckily the service has been attentive, and tea was refilled several times during my short stay.
Still a decent place for beef noodles if you’re in a pinch, but RedBeef in Kitsilano is definitely the better option if you don’t mind going a...
