We decided to check out the rice rolls from Harmony Bakery in Richmond. There's only one table there to eat so it's really more of a takeout shop. For our rice rolls we got one with shrimp, and one with mixed vegetables.
After being sealed in containers for awhile, by the time we found a place to eat and opened up the containers again, the rice rolls weren't so good. The Vegetarian one was especially...meh. Wasn't impressed with the veggies they used. They appeared to be just the small bits of mixed veggies that you would find in a bag of frozen mixed veggies. Plus the rice roll itself was gooey.
The shrimp rice roll was slightly better. It was less gooey but still nothing to write home about.
We tried a few of their baked goods too. Again, not impressed. Not sure how this place got a 3.9 star rating on Google. It was definitely somewhere below that number for us.

Read moreRice rolls are average, not the best and the soy sauce they include is awful. More unacceptable is the wait time, up to 40 mins for steam rice rolls, as if their kitchen has zero sense of time management. Lastly, outright intolerable, is the tall non glasses mid aged cashier who acts like a witch. If you are lucky, you will see the petite cashier with glasses who is very nice but only there part time. Bake goods are very good and if just buying the prepared items, the purchase is usually uneventful. For Rice Rolls, I would definately not go again. Nope ,...

The rice rolls (Chang fen) are freshly made and their texture and taste and texture is wonderful. Their jiaci dumplings (deep fried dumplings where the dough is made of sticky rice powder) are REALLY nice with a great balance of chewy, sweet and savoury. Youtiao is not bad either. Very affordable as well, and it was fast, took no longer than 10mins and they bring it out for you too. Glad to...
