I went in today eager to try out this place after seeing the positive reviews online. Parking is $3/hour in the shared parkade. Upon entering, I greeted the only worker in the store. She looked up, but I got no acknowledgement or greeting or response from her. She just continued preparing an Uber order quietly, didn't even say something like "Hi, I'll be with you in a moment." I understand that I walked in while she was in the middle of doing something, and so it wasn't like I was expecting her to immediately drop what she was doing and serve me right away. But a simple greeting and acknowledgement would have been proper, instead of completely ignoring the fact that I was there standing in front of her. I stood there looking at the menu and the food items on the assembly line. No acknowledgement, nothing. (Kinda like what happens at Ikea with their staff; they don't talk to you until you say something to them.) After a while, she asked if I was ready to order or if I needed more time. I said I needed more time. When she pulled off the food covers, I was also pretty grossed out that 3 of the poke scoopers (handles included) were fully laying/swimming in the poke containers with the marinading poke being displayed, and the worker didn't bother to pull them out. Ewww. How many hands have touched those handles and that they were allowed to just sit/lay there in the poke. Not good optics for cleanliness.
I got a large bowl with the creamy scallops, Hawaiian ahi and shoyu salmon. They were all marinated in different sauces. I thought they would just be scooped directly onto the rice so each flavour could be enjoyed separately. But instead, the 3 different flavours/types of marinated poke were all scooped into a stainless steel bowl only to be mixed in together with more sauces different from what they were already marinated in, along with half of the toppings. It just didn't make any sense for all these contrasting sauces and flavours to all be mixed together. I wasn't expecting that. Anyways, I ended up asking for the other free toppings (laid out separately on top of the rice) so I could sample them separately, not all mixed together with the already confusing mess in the stainless steel bowl.
I love poke and have tried many different places, but unfortunately this place just didn't do it for me. I think the flavours and toppings just didn't jive well; they were confusing to the taste buds and several of the flavours just flat out clashed. The gal working the bar didn't really take initiative to provide suggestions about their specials and any recommendations for flavour/topping combinations, even though I said it was my first time there. After she rang me up, I paid, I thanked her, but again I got no acknowledgement, no response; she just disappeared off to the back (as I assume she obviously had lots of other responsibilities). The overall environment of this place was just so cold and sterile. No smile, warmth, emotion. Weird considering Hawaii is supposed to be everything opposite to that. I don't think I'd be coming back. $23.99 for a poke bowl + $3...
Read moreWe recieved a discount card in my child's hockey tournament gift bag so decided to give this place a try and were so glad we did! Google maps takes you around to the side street from the actual shop so keep that in mind. We were in a hurry so ordered one of their specialty bowls. Everything was so fresh and delicious! I especially enjoyed the option to upgrade to the zoodles instead of rice. So yummy! The servers were sooo friendly and happy to accommodate. It wasn't the usual get you through as fast as possible service that most places offer these days. They really made me feel comfortable to ask questions and ensure I was getting everything that I wanted. Compared to the other pokè places that we have been to in the area (or the greater Vancouver area) this place is the top of my list! Can't wait...
Read moreWas looking for some catering options for a work event. Tried Poke Guys and Westcoast Poke, but they never replied to me. Just Poke on the other hand were really friendly and helpful over the phone. Very responsive and prompt via email. And the food was actually really good. We had around 90 people and the university students were raving about it. When we went to pickup our order, my coworker had car troubles. The staff there went the extra mile and tried jumping the car with his personal vehicle.
Top notch service and great waves of flavour. The Kalua pork was moist (when often it can be dry). The ahi tuna was flavourful but not fishy. Lots of toppings too.
Definitely...
