I recently had an absolutely dreadful experience at Sushi Kiwami in, which resulted in severe food poisoning for both my friend and I. I even went to ER to confirmed as food poisoning. I feel compelled to share my harrowing encounter to warn others about the potential health risks involved.
Despite the lack of thorough research on my part and heedlessly ignoring negative reviews on platforms, I made the regrettable decision to dine at Sushi Kiwami. This decision turned out to be a grave mistake, and I implore you to exercise extreme caution before considering this establishment.
To start with, I opted for the most expensive menu which is $499, expecting a premium dining experience. However, the food served was far from satisfactory. The fish, excluding the sea urchin, exhibited questionable freshness. The appetizer fish was horrendously over-fried, resulting in an unappetizingly tough texture. The sashimi and sushi lacked the precision and artistry typically associated with Japanese cuisine. Furthermore, the ankimo (monkfish liver) lacked any discernible flavor and was disappointingly under-seasoned. In retrospect, the warning signs were evident in the online photographs, which I unfortunately failed to recognize. The overall meal was a distressing and painful experience to endure.
The nightmare, however, did not end there. In the middle of the night following the meal, I was suddenly overwhelmed by severe nausea and an uncontrollable urge to vomit. This was accompanied by persistent discomfort throughout the night, leading to disrupted sleep. Upon waking up the next morning, I experienced relentless vomiting, debilitating diarrhea, and an excruciating headache. The severity of these symptoms necessitated immediate medical attention at the emergency room, where I was diagnosed with severe food poisoning and administered the required treatment.
This appalling incident raises grave concerns about the food safety practices employed by Sushi Kiwami. I strongly urge everyone to think twice before considering dining at this establishment, as the consequences of food poisoning can be utterly devastating. It is imperative that Sushi Kiwami takes swift and decisive action to rectify these serious health and safety issues.
I sincerely hope that by sharing my distressing experience, I can help others avoid the same agonizing fate. I implore Sushi Kiwami to prioritize the well-being of its patrons and take immediate measures to ensure food safety...
Read moreWe had the most amazing experience at Sushi Kiwami 鮨極 on the last night of our stay in Vancouver, BC. Luckily, this omakase was just steps away from our hotel - Versante Hotel - we literally RAN over without our jackets in the middle of winter lol.
First impression is always KEY, and I don't mean our impression on them but rather the other way around LOL. We all know that it is disrespectful to the sushi chef when you arrive LATE to an omakase. But we were still warmly greeted by a gentleman at the door, and he escorted us to our seats at the Chef's table.
It is was my first omakase experience in Vancouver! Chef Yuta Arase was a young sushi chef, who flew in all the way from Japan. He made jokes with us, took great care of us and really made us feel comfortable and welcomed. The food and service were top notch. Everything was fresh, delicious, and it was a good amount of food for 2 people.
Omakase dinner starting from $299, $399, and $499 with 2 seating times available starting at 6pm. Please be ON TIME! Chef will only begin when ALL parties arrive, meaning, if you're late (like us), the other customers will have to wait for your ugly a$$ too D:
It is said that this omakase is comparable to Sushi Masaki Saito in Toronto, ON, which I still have yet to try! Nonetheless, we had a fun night out, and thanks for helping us out with our giant bottle of sake LOL. Cheers to the amazing people we met along the way, and cheers to a great...
Read moreHonestly just mediocre. I'm on a one-omakase-a-week tour around BC, and this place fell way short for the price tag of $299.
Compared to my favourite place so far Sushi Jin at $100 less, the flavour, attention to detail, service were all noticeably lacking at Kiwami. Every piece wasn't as flavourful, serving temperature wasn't as consistent, and the rice simply didn't complement the fish.
New waitress working when asked what dish she put in front of me responded, "fried fish." Lol. If you're paying $299+ for an experience, the delivery better be polished.
Sake options were expensive at $50+/bottle. Better sub-$25 options at Jin.
Chef at Jin habitually gives extra treats to please guests. I was charged an extra $15 here without knowing lol.
There were latecomers to most places I visited. Other places respect the on-time diners and don't compromise the experience to accommodate latecomers - Kiwami would. Felt rushed in feeding bursts, followed by wide gaps. Pacing wasn't comfortable.
Anyways, at quality similar to Maumi for $80, abysmal Wagyu compared to Shu for $150 + $86 for 6x more/better Wagyu, Kiwami clearly not...
