We were driving around the city of Richmond and my boyfriend didn't want to go to the same place he had eaten at with his co-workers, so we started Yelping.
We stumbled upon this hole in the wall awesome sauce of a spot! They're located upstairs. It is very easily accessible from the upstairs parkade located within a few feet of the front door. Upon entering there's a little waiting room just in case it gets a little packed so that patrons could wait comfortably.
The decor, the ambience, the good AND the customer service all deserve a 5 STARS from us. This was our first time coming to a restaurant like this it is unique all in it's own. We ordered some food from the menu with pictures and our waitress also gave us a heads up upon how to order with their menu.
After looking through the menu, we ordered M7 Grilled Spareribs, B1 Beef Thin Skirt, C3 Cheese Corn, T6 Sausage Stew and a bottle of the Grape Soju! The owner and the waitress were very welcoming and helped us with a few recommendations on what to order.
The food was hot and came out accordingly. The cheese corn was the first to come out. Also, the house salad and fried chicken skin came out too. It was on the house, which was very very very generous of the owner!! The fried chicken skin tasted like chicharron. It was crunch and almost melted like butter. The salad had a very nice applesauce vinaigrette, and apple bits, which I love. The cheese corn tasted amazing as compared to what I attempted on my own. Then came our stew, which was supposed to be spicy. I was glad it wasn't too spicy because I wouldn't have enjoyed it. It was delicious! Next came the beef thin skirt, sizzling on flat hot stone with three dipping sauces and a side of lettuce. You could eat the meat by itself or, which we preferred, the liquid dipping sauce. Another dish from the other was the sweet and sour chicken. It was crunchy, sweet and sour with pumpkin and sunflower seeds on top. It wasn't gooey, saucy or full of water like most places. It was just right not to tangy either! Last came the grilled spareribs. It was full of flavor and could also be eaten by itself.
With all that food, we still had to finish the Soju!! The soju flavor we chose is now my new favorite flavor. If you're Vietnamese/Asian growing up loved chewing gum and always had to beg your mom for the Marukawa Japanese variety pack with grape, orange, strawberry, melon, flavors, then you can compare it to the flavor of the grape gum flavor.

Read moreThere is one thing I need to state before making this review, which is if you bring more people, the bill will be divided up more. The reason our meal came to 30-40 dollars per person is due to the fact we only had 3 people with myself included.
The main point I will say for those that are in the need of a place to eat Korean food (not korean bbq) this is the place for you. But one thing to keep in mind is during dinner times, it gets very busy, so you might want to call in advance if you want to secure your spot for some tasty Korean food. When we made it there, the environment screamed, "Korea!" As the place has multiple tvs playing K-pop music constantly. The staff was friendly and guided us to our spot where there was the menu, plates, chopsticks, and spoons waiting for us. On that disappointed me was they didn't serve us water (due to it being too busy). There were also these standard wooden car seats for you and your group to fit in and prepare to order. In the tables, most of them come with drawers that contain extra spoons, chopsticks, and napkins.
We ordered a lot of food, most are recommended on the menu, or simply had an appealing look in the menu. Star dishes are the Rosé Tteokbokki, nappa wraps, and the kimchi fried rice with cheese. Flavors were exquisite, made to perfection. The shrimps and the fried pork were decent but nothing too special. One thing I will point out is that the shrimp doesn't maintain its crisp as it's drenched with sauce, while the porks' sweet and sour sauce didn't meet my expectations. The final base to touch down is the beverages, which they had a decent selection of non alcoholic beverages, a minimal selection of beer, but a VAST selection of soju. Therefore, if you are craving soju, the yakult soju is the best!
Overall, it was a great place to eat, but it was such a shame that I couldn't give anything higher than a 4-star review due to a slight lack of customer service and slightly above average food. However, leaving this review on a high note, I will recommend this place to fellow friends and family for those that want a good...
Read moreHighly unimpressed with this restaurant, I typically do not judge food based on service, but my experience here was so terrible that I have to make note of it. I ordered the tofu soup that always comes with an egg. When I could not find the egg in the soup, I talked to the server about it. He was adamant that there is an egg in the soup even though I had already searched for it thoroughly twice and there was no egg. Nonetheless, I searched for a 3rd time as he walked away. When he came back to the table and I told him again that there was no egg, he finally gave in and took the dish back to the kitchen to check himself while insisting that I simply did not find it and that the egg had to be in the soup. 5mins later, he came back with a completely raw egg in lukewarm soup. I was flabbergasted as anyone who has had this soup before would know that the egg is never completely raw and it must be cracked into the soup while it is boiling. When I asked if he could cook the egg for me, the server became defensive and said that I had requested a raw egg to just be put in. Which is true, but the soup should have been boiling and his response did not need to be so snarky when he simply could’ve brought the soup back without saying anything because that is what he ended up doing regardless. The coup then came back out with curdled egg mixed in… I was highly unimpressed and had given up at this point. I understand being too lazy to remake a whole dish, but was it really that hard to bring a bowl of soup back to boiling and simply crack a raw egg in? I asked they people at this restaurant does not believe in effort when it comes to cooking or customer service and apparently, winning an argument to them is more important than being respectful. Unbelievable and I will not be going back to this restaurant. The rest of the dishes were absolutely mediocre with the tteokbokki...
