My wife and I specifically went here as she wanted to try their French toast. Luck would have it that the first thing after we were seated and given some water/menus.. was the French toast is unavailable.

Lol oh well I got the chicken waffle Benny and my wife got the not your average Benny. I also opted for the ice London fog latte and wife got lavender lemonade.

The Breakfast servings size is decent, flavourful of the chicken and waffle Benny was delicious. I do have day slightly sweeter than I like but very tasty. The chicken was fried too perfection.. crispy outside and moist and flavorful middle. The garlic hash browns were fried nicely and were crispy.

Wife's not your average Benny which had a vanilla dipped English muffin as the base we thought could use a better crisp as the base was soft from the vanilla custard. The 🥓 was super salty, everything in one bite yielded a decent flavor profile but on their own... didn't quite work. Super salty bacon, moist English muffin without crispy exterior.. made it a bit hard to eat. It wasn't unedible we did eat moist everything just my palate relaying out our thoughts.

The drinks.. i was expecting some sweetness to the ice London dog latte but wasn't expecting the sugar bomb when I sucked my first mouthful through the straw. I tried to water it down by adding some of the water we were given but still super sweet. I am type 2 diabetic and allow a cheat time now and then but this was a harsh no. Lol no I didn't tell the server as I wasn't expecting that level of sweetness in a latte. I switched drinks with My wife as her lavender lemonade was super tart and sweet for her. I was able to dilute the lemonade and I like tart flavor profiles so I was able to drink most of it.

Over all the food is not bad just not to our overall flavor profile that we like. If you like things on the sweeter side this is the place for you. We've not tried their savory lunch items.. perhaps we'll come back to try and stick...

I have been to Chef's Playground a good number of times since it's opening and have usually enjoyed the experience. Truffle fries are delicious and well seasoned and the triple garlic fries are loaded with buttery garlicy goodness. Yumm! Burgers are quality all the way. My favourite eggs benny are topped with with a spot on hollandaise. This morning my husband and I popped in for brunch (a first for him) and both of us ordered the Chef's Hearty Breakfast. Other than the bacon which was quite flavourless and greasy ( I have never been disappointed in bacon before) we were enjoying our breakfast until near the end of our meal when we were approached by one of the waiters who asked us if we would mind changing tables. Well, my husband had finished eating and I was about 5 minutes away from finishing. I looked at the table and all that it would entail to move in order to finish my breakfast and wanted to say "yes, I do mind". I mean move the coffee, the water, the plate cutler, jam pot,.... by the time I'm resettled there's nothing about my Sunday brunch that is still enjoyable. I would like to say to the waiter in question, think!! Were all you're customers and it would not have hurt the couple and their infant to wait 5 more minutes to take our table. To that end we simply paid our bill and left without finishing our meal, a disappointed ending to the one meal we managed to share together at the end of...

The pricing, quality, quantity, and customer service was great.

The customer service was very friendly and both the server and chef were very accommodating for substitution and upgrade. I had to sub lettuce instead of the bun because of high blood sugar and I really wanted to try their truffle fries as well.

The mushroom "burger" (if you still wanna call it a burger without the bun) was delicious and the ingredients tasted really fresh. A lot of places over season their patties losing the original taste if the meat. But at Chef's Playground, it was seasoned perfectly so I can appreciate the appreciate taste of beef itself. They also used, what I think was shimeji mushrooms, which gave it a much better texture as opposed to a traditional mushroom burger.

Personally, I felt that their truffle fries stole the show last night. The texture of the fries were deep fried perfectly, crunchy but not dry. It was perfectly salted (to my taste). And there was just the right amount of truffle parmesan (I'm guessing it's parmesan) grated on there. Another huge plus is that the fries actually taste like potatoes instead of freezer.

If I absolutely had to nit pick something, I would have to say the patty could be just a tad juicier. I'd give it a 4.9 stars but it's not an option and it is definitely not going stopping me from coming back at all.

Thank you for a great dinner and we'll definitely...

I come here now and then since I live relatively close by, sorta. But the every now and then seems just right for coming here. Eqch time we dine here it's always something different. There is a familiarity to chefs dishes and then again some of my older favourites are not there. But thats ok. Always have to try to change things up. And since I've been here off and on since they first opened. I'm always pleasantly surprised. This morning I have breakfast and really liked my Eggs Bennie. The server was cute and polite and helpful. The food came out fast and the coffee was spot on. I came back with some relatives for lunch. Same day! We all had steak. For the price I knew to not expect dry aged ribeye and so I wasn't let down. However for the cut I should have ordered it more in the cooked side. Fries were ok. The downside was that we all noticed the steaks were not that hot. The good side is that the ketchup I think is house made as well as the fresh bread and the jams etc. in the current format I think Chefs Playground has evolved into a slightly HK style format with better quality and attention to detail. Prices are good and service is good. For me, it's my casual diner to revisit every now and then. That's a good thing especially since I fine out way less these days. So I pick my spots more carefully. I hope you like this place. We do.

Went for brunch with my family on a Saturday and the whole dining experience was just disappointing. Once we sat down we were told they were out of avocados and tomatoes. Then after a while they said they don’t have mushrooms, fish and chips and truffles fries. The kitchen just not prepared for service. We ended up with very limited choices which was still fine. The dishes came out at a reasonable time except for the Mac and cheese that my niece ordered. We waited for 30+ mins and were told it would be a few more minutes. After 10 minutes we asked again and the chef said he hasn’t even start making it. Apparently he would rather prepare all the dishes for all the other tables that came after us than start making the Mac and cheese. I thought it was just crazy and unacceptable. We ended up watching my niece eating her not so great Mac and cheese since we all finished our plates. The food was subpar and bland. The Oyster Chowder was watery and flavorless. The menu said it comes with garlic bread but we got tasteless focaccia bread instead. I guess they were out of garlic bread as well. Sorry, with other brunch restaurants in the area, I don’t think I would ever want to go back to this place. We still paid 15% tips because the front of house staff were actually friendly and attentive.

This place was like a hole in the wall as my wife and I just happen to be in Steveston and happen to get hungry. We saw this place and decided to check it out - and what a gem we found. The staff greeted us warmly as we came in and gave us the choice of seats as we arrived around 5 (and what a good choice that was as by 6, the place got filled). Our waitress took the time to explain and answer our questions on the menu - a menu that isn't that big but that's always a good sign that it's more about quality than quantity. There is only one chef / cook and that's the impressive part. We were entertained on how well he kept up with the orders as his cooking area is open for patrons to see. Our food came in a timely manner and we observed how much care he put into his cooking. Our food was delicious; my wife had the curry dish and had the oyster burger. We also got the chef's special bisque also satisfying. My wife and I even loitered a bit as we sat there and enjoyed our hot water as we conversed. Not once did we feel rushed and our hot water even got refilled. Great atmosphere, staff, and chefs. Would definitely recommend.
