This has been my go-to destination for birthday and Christmas shopping for the last 13 years. They have a good selection of gifts ranging from beauty products to stationery, kitchen items, teas and more. The reason I'm giving them a poor rating is because for the fourth consecutive time I've tried to shop there they were closed despite the hours posted on the door and online showing they should be open. This time, like past times, there were a few people standing outside and looking confused, as was I. Others told me this was a common occurrence in the past, for staff to open late. If this were a one-off incident and there was a good reason for the delay I would not have said anything. But this is now the fourth time in a row that I arrived approximately 20 minutes after opening time to find the doors locked and no sign of any staff. Nikaido is an exceptionally well curated shop for the design lover and nesting enthusiast alike. While it carries such beautiful stationary and Japanese/Scandinavian goods as to impress even the most high end palette, it remains accessible to all who love beauty through the candles, scents, and general curiosities that abound through the store - a special dynamic, for too often well designed goods can be presented in an elitist manner, their beauty rendered inaccessible. Nikaido, with its personable, warm staff and curio packed presentation keeps itself from being too stuffy, instead proving to be an inviting space for all who love beauty to enjoy with an open heart.
