Fonbo Restaurant — Restaurant in Saanich

I've had a lot of Chinese of varying degrees of quality. This was without a doubt the worst. Ordered the dinner for two plus ginger beef and it was barely dinner for two. Half a container of batter with pork with gobs of sauce and nary a vegetable to be found, the "chow mien" was a noodles with about 8 peices of what looked like deli meat chicken on top; again no vegetables. Not sure how the chop suey is becaus we didn't get it. Cashew chicken? More like a bowl of peas and celery with a few cashews and peices of chicken (?) so small I had to search for them. I really wanted to like this place. We tried it for delivery, and the woman who took our order was friendly and the food arrived quickly. Like, weirdly quickly. It was 15 minutes from the time I called to the delivery guy knocking on the door. The food was really bland and had no semblance of freshness. The chicken in the chow mein was cold julienned deli meat sprinkled on top of mushy noodles. The sweet and sour pork was hard as rocks. The deep fried prawns were awful - cold, rubbery and inedible. My husband ate his meal, but I couldn't choke mine down. I ordered a regular wonton soup and while it came with lots of wontons, it was extremely bland, the broth was flavourless. I agree that this restaurant could use a make-over. However because of what happened to us a couple of weekends ago, I can completely overlook that fact. Our party of 14 suffered a reservation malfunction at another restaurant that resulted in a horrid experience. Because it was a weekend and the Christmas season, most places were booked. Fonbo's was able to cheerfully accommodate our group at the last minute. The service was exceptional and the food delicious.
