Nestled in the picturesque borough of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on the West Island of Montreal, Le Surcouf is a gem that consistently delivers an exceptional dining experience. This French restaurant has been our go-to place for celebrating our anniversary for three years running, and it never fails to impress. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the Owner and Maître d’Hôtel, Dominique. Her charming and attentive nature added a personal touch to our evening, making us feel like cherished guests in her home. The service at Le Surcouf is impeccably timed, ensuring that each course is presented at the perfect moment, allowing us to savor every bite without feeling rushed. To start, my wife chose the "Crazy Salad," a delightful mix of fresh greens, vibrant vegetables, and a light, tangy dressing that awakened her palate. For her main course, she opted for the "Scallops with Leek Gratiné with Parmesan." The scallops were cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, while the leek gratiné added a creamy, savory richness that complemented the dish beautifully. I began my meal with "Le Foie Gras," a luxurious appetizer that was decadently smooth and rich, paired with a delicate, slightly sweet accompaniment that balanced the flavors exquisitely. For my main course, I chose the "Veal Chop with Sautéed Mushrooms in a Cream Sauce." The veal chop was succulent and tender, with the sautéed mushrooms and cream sauce adding a depth of flavor that elevated the dish to a gastronomic delight. Every aspect of our meal at Le Surcouf was a testament to the restaurant's dedication to culinary excellence. The ambiance, enhanced by Dominique's engaging conversations, creates a welcoming and intimate atmosphere that makes each visit special. Le Surcouf is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary haven where exceptional food, outstanding service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere come together to create unforgettable dining experiences. It's no wonder we've made it our anniversary tradition, and we look forward to many more delightful evenings at this exquisite French restaurant.

We've dined at Le Surcouf many times before and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. That’s why we chose it as the place to celebrate our wedding anniversary with friends. Unfortunately, the service during this visit was far below the standard we've come to expect. From the beginning of the evening, it felt as though our table had been forgotten. It took quite a while for anyone to bring us menus or a wine list. Once we ordered, the appetizers arrived and were excellent—beautifully presented and full of flavor. The main courses were also delicious, with one exception: my friend’s lamb, ordered medium, arrived nearly raw—far closer to blue than rare. She’s not picky, but this was clearly undercooked. It took some time to flag someone down to return it to the kitchen, and we noticed another table nearby also sending their meat back. Dessert was enjoyable, but our coffees were brought to us afterward and served lukewarm. After finishing, we asked for the bill—but again, we were left waiting. We had to ask three different staff members before my husband eventually got up to find someone. He discovered the staff gathered in the back, drinking. When we finally received the bill, the waiter offered only a weak apology and questioned who we had spoken to earlier. I simply told him this wasn’t the level of service we were used to, especially for a special occasion. He said nothing in response. We still appreciate the food and the setting at Le Surcouf, but this experience was disappointing. We hope this was an off night and not a sign of declining standards. We have been to the Surcouf many times in the past. It was clear that no one on staff knew who was responsible for our table. Throughout the evening, we were approached by five different people, none of whom seemed to be communicating with each other. At a restaurant known for its typically high standards of service, this lack of coordination was especially disappointing.

Service- 1 out of 5 atrocious The seared foie gras a 10/10, everything I dreamt of, one of the best. However, it all went downhill from there. The fries that came out with the beef tartare were incredibly soggy and gross. Every single fry was an inch long or less, as if someone had scrounged up all the disgusting leftover bits in oil that should have been thrown in the trash. Not ok. Long after I was done with my meal, the waitress said that’s how the fries normally are, and that they may have just used smaller potatoes. Lol. Never saw her after that, other than when she walked by and just cleared my glass of wine away without asking if I’d like another or if I’d like dessert/the bill. I asked for my check from the hostess as the waitress acknowledged every table around me, except for mine, and I proceeded to wait 20 min without any help. I literally had to get up from my seat and wait at the hostess stand to pay and leave. The service literally pissed me off and left a horrible taste.
