I called yesterday (07-15) around noon. I requested a reservation for two people at the table by the window with the window open (both myself and my partner are immune compromised and there is still COVID). I was told it would not be a problem at 4:30pm.
We arrived at 4:26pm to find the table occupied by people who were nowhere near completed their meal. I told the server that I had reservation for the table by the window at 4:30pm, with the window open. He then did go and tell the people at the table that they would have to change tables. They did and then we were seated. I did ask again about the window being opened and he said it would be done.
After a few minutes of nothing being done, he came by to put water on our table. I then asked for the 3rd time for the window to be opened. He said something about asking the owner and then left.
After another 10 minutes of no one coming to our table and no one opening the window, we both got up and left and had dinner elsewhere in Ste. Anne’s, where we were treated respectfully and like valued customers.
Before COVID, I would come to your restaurant regularly, 4-5 times per year. Yesterday was the first time I was to eat at your restaurant since COVID, and this is how I was treated. I wish myself and my partner were not immune compromised, but it is the reality we must live with, which means continuing mask wearing in crowded areas, eating on outdoor restaurant terraces, or in your case, eating at a table next to an open window. I don’t think this was too much to ask, and yet we left feeling like we were causing some kind of...
Read moreIt is usually difficult to please an Indian family at an Indian restaurant. However, I was blown away with the food here.
For starters we had Samosas. Usually most eateries would mash the potatoes and stuff them in the dough. However, here they had curried the potatoes (subzi) with spices and then stuffed them into the dough. The green mint chutney that accompanied the dish was also fresh with the right amount of heat.
For the main course, we had Shahi Paneer and Mali Kofta. The main course was just amazing. Shahi paneer is difficult to get right. Most restaurants make it too tangy and the paneer is usually very hard. Here the sauce was just perfect; smooth, rich and the right amount of spice and heat. The paneer was also very fresh. As you cut through the paneer it was soft and the centre was brilliant white.
Mali kofta was just as amazing. The base sauce was similar to shahi paneer. The kofta balls were made out of potatoes, cauliflower, flour and panner. Again it's a difficult dish to get right. In most eateries, the kofta balls can be very dense and oily. Here, they were light, fluffy and bounced when you cut through them, a sign of a good kofta.
Overall the food was amazing. If you are in the area come and check them out. You'll be...
Read moreAlthough I had an enjoyable meal I was surprised when I went to use a gift card we had won at a church function last Fall. It was a $50 gift card that we had kept in an envelope along with the purchase receipt. We presented it to the waiter who disappeared and when he returned he told us that the valance on the card was $00.00 and that it had been used. We did NOT use it and feel it is unlikely that the church provided a 'used' card as a prize. The manager was called an initially told us that the card was 'never loaded". However he quickly changed his tune when we showed him the purchase receipt we received with the card. It was suggested that we had 'forgotten ' when we used the card. Although they were able to show us a printout that said the balance was '$00.00' they were NOT able to tell us when the card was used. I understand that the resturant has a new owner, is it possible that anyone else has experienced a...
