I had previously posted a 5-star review which I am updating. My family and I used to love this place and chose to go there to celebrate my mom's birthday last night. Reservation for 7:00 p.m., table of 10. Eight of us arrived right at 7. While waiting for the others to arrive, we were given a drinks menu. After about 15 minutes, I told the waitress we'd like to start looking at the dinner menu so we could order soon after the others came, as we were hungry. The other two arrived before 7:25. Still, the waitress did not come take our order until 7:50 (At no point earlier had she stopped by our table to check if we were ready to order). At that point, she announced the kitchen had run out of ribs and duck. Since three of us had planned to order those items, we asked her to give us 5 more minutes to pick something else off the menu. The waitress disappeared for another 20 minutes until she finally came to take our order. When she was done taking our order at 8:15, she asked if we'd like some bread. Sure, we said -- we'd already been there for 75 minutes and were pretty hungry. She left, and as another 15 minutes went by and the bread hadn't arrived, we flagged down the owner/manager. "Do you want your bread cold?" He asked, somewhat rudely. "Because it has to go in the oven. That's why you didn't get it right away." But we'd been sitting in the restaurant for 90 minutes. When the bread finally came, it was hot and delicious. But there was one (very small) roll per person -- 12 rolls total for a table of 10. Sure enough, we asked for more bread. The second basket only arrived with our mains about 30 minutes later. All in all, we waited almost 2 hours before having a single bite of food in that restaurant. When we left and my dad mentioned this fact to the owner, he made several excuses instead of apologizing. As for the food itself, it was quite mediocre. My $37 sirloin was decently cooked -- but the meat itself was slightly tough. It was on the table d'hôte and came with a soup or salad. I ordered the soup -- a mulligatawny -- which I had to send back as it tasted like store bought vegetable broth spiced with some curry and cayenne over limp overcooked diced carrots and celery... I found it almost inedible, frankly. I was given the orzo salad instead; cold lumps of sticky orzo served over lettuce with a few sad vegetables thrown in and an overly acidic vinaigrette. The steak itself was good enough, but it was served over hard mashed potatoes, not remotely fluffy and under-seasoned. Other people at our table had mixed results with their food; the burgers were good, luckily, the shrimp gumbo was a sad, watery dish that came with a total of 5 shrimp. For an expensive main! Someone else ordered the beef fajitas--the beef strips came very, very dry and overcooked. Our waitress stopped by our table at 30-minute intervals and was often in another part of the restaurant, where we couldn't see her or flag her down if we needed anything. She failed to refill our water glasses for an entire hour at the end of the evening, and I got so thirsty, after she had ignored my repeated requests for more water, that I almost went to the bathroom to get tap water there. She was incompetent and inattentive, and the manager did not seem to notice or care that our table was unhappy. A huge disappointment. We won't be going...
Read morePositive: decorations, ambiance, chill staff, french onion soup flavorful if a bit watery; very clean and friendly staff ( the owner/ floor manager?) Is super nice. Nice size portions. The resto-pub is well decorated, very clean, and the ambiance/vibe is fantastic. The staff are super friendly and very helpful.
I went to this restaurant for a birthday party for my mother in law. We were a group of 10 people. We made a reservation (HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING ONE). A few of the positives: I ordered the shrimp gumbo and the French onion soup Both were were very flavorful Nice size portion Properly cooked Well seasoned Presentation was excellent A few of the negatives: While I understand that we were a large group, we waited over 45 mins to be served bread They only serve bread AFTER you order, which makes 0 sense to me and the rest of the other 9 hungry people at the table. The food itself took over 45 mins to be served (it was served hot however, so no complaints on this) The French onion soup was a bit watery (It was flavorful after having added salt+pepper) The gumbo was underwhelming overall….. The gumbo had very little rice which made it too liquid. The rice was also under-cooked. If the owners DO read these reviews, I would suggest that they add more rice and cook it a bit more. Overall, I found that for the price the meal could have...
Read moreWould give zero stars if I could. My daughter booked this place for 6pm (in my presence) and asked for the table “in front of the fireplace” as we asked. It was for my 79th birthday, a really important milestone event. We knew the table from the previous incarnation of the place. A sentimental thought. Arrived well before 6 and found the place practically empty except for, you guessed it, the table in front of the fireplace we had reserved, where a couple sat nursing glasses of wine, (and no food). To add insult to injury the host admitted they were a “walk-in” then laughably claimed they would eat and be gone in 30 minutes! .And then, to add further insult, claimed we had booked for 6.30, which was untrue. Even if it had been 6.30 there was still no way this couple were going to be served food and eat and leave in only 30 minutes. So we left and went next door to the Surcouf, where we were warmly received and got the last table available. I’m sure the food is good, at Delos (which is what we booked) but that’s only half what an important event or milestone is all about. Will...
