I'll start off with the good points of the night. Our server Allie, was absolutely amazing and definitely pulled this rating up higher. Often times you find servers who are either too overbearing with checking up on a table, or non existent past initial order and when the time comes to get the bill. Allie provided an excellent service and was able to check up on our table in a way that did not feel overbearing, intrusive, or repetitive. The happy attitude she brought to the table was a nice breath of fresh air as she seemed genuinely pleased to be able to help us with our dining experience. If I go back to Hooters, it would be in hopes of receiving the same treatment that I got with Allie as our server.
Now on to the rest of the stay. The appetizers we order were breaded shrimp and a pretzel and cheese sauce dish. The batter on the shrimp was amazing, nice and crispy, and not overcooked with just the right amount of crisp to it. This was, unfortunately, overshadowed by generic sauces it was served with. I was hoping for a place that I had been told about having amazing sauces and flavours that the sauces would stand out from any other establishment and I was left with disappointment as the taste and flavour was something that I could have found at any other wing location. Perhaps I will try them again later with different sauce options, but between the Teriyaki, Garlic Parmesan, Medium Buffalo, and General Tso's, there was much left for the imagination on what could have been a great selection.
The Pretzel's and cheese sauce was a good choice, on paper. When we received the starter it was a well made pretzel stick being soft and chewy and tasted fresh. This dish, unfortunately, suffered due to the main focus-- The cheese sauce. With a thickness that could only be described as being one step away form water the cheese sauce lacked any real flavour aside from a very muted, processed, cheese after taste. Using it as a conversation filler and snacking on the dish through the night, the cheese sauce actually thickened to more of a jelly like consistency as it cooled off and left what could have been a very appetizing dish as a buyers regret by the end of the meal.
For a main meal I decided to try a simple order, a classic, the Western BBQ Burger with a side Caesar Salad. The presentation of the food was lacking. I had been expecting two, thick cut, onion rings on the burger, but instead had two, very thin onion rings that looked honestly out of place as a burger topper. As for the burger itself the patties where overcooked and dry on one side, and slightly under cooked and soggy on the other. Unfortunately I could not finish eating what could have been a great meal. With my disappointment in the burger I moved on to the Caesar salad and was left with just as much disappointment. The greens in the salad were fresh, which was nice, but the salad dressing was not evenly mixed, with some leaves having massive globs of the dressing, and others with drops of water. Parmesan cheese was sprinkled on top, along with croutons, but only dusted. Without the cheese mixed in with the salad it was a glorified bowl of lettuce and globs of dressing.
The rest of my dining party had similar experiences with crinkle cut fries that looked, and tasted, like McCain's fries with little to no seasoning, A Mac and Cheese burger that lacked seasoned beef and very bland Macaroni and cheese that was sloppy in its placement. A curly fry poutine that was simultaneously over seasoned and under seasoned with clusters of the seasoning on parts of the fries and other parts being clean. A chicken buffalo burger that had no flavour in the chicken other than the light coating of sauce.
All in all, the experience itself was not overly impressive and was really only enjoyable thanks to an amazing server. Though my other dining party members took their food to go, it is not an establishment I see myself coming back for to eat...
Read moreOverall, I would recommend coming for drinks, as they have an amazing draft selection, but would have supper elsewhere.
Service was very nice. Have been a few times now and have never had a complaint. I’ve had a couple of different dishes here and all have been bad. Their salad is something that can be easily made at home and will probably be better. I tried the tacos and I was pleasantly surprised with getting 3 in an order, but was immediately dissatisfied with the blandness. They’re supposed to be shrimp tacos but the shrimp are very small and are lost in the slaw that completely overtakes the taco. I would rather 2 good tacos than 3 bland. Fries are always over salted. Yam fries are frequently under done, sometimes so that they’re still crunchy and raw in the middle.
Tried the Mac n Cheese bacon burger and the bun was burnt. The burger patty was overdone and dry. The macaroni was somehow cold on the burger, not just cool, but refrigerator cold.
The owner seems nice and attentive to tables. They frequently give out free shots and create a fun environment for drinks!
Every time I have been in there some drama goes down. I’ve seen a girl pass out in the hallway and a bar fight almost start. Very interesting atmosphere...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went for all you can eat wings. Only 1 server was available to the entire restaurant (she was doing a good job with tough Job she was given) and the bartender was forced to serve us. the wings were god awful: salty, didn’t taste like the flavour ordered and the first batch burnt my fingers and the second batch was cold (which is concerning). My partner didn’t finish her first order and we were unable to box up the leftovers. Now I understand not being able to box up all you can eat wings but these were 25$ wings, that were unable to be stomached more than 5 at a time due to being salty, a little bit of compromise should be in order ( the bartender said they were unable to box them up and we didn’t want to get her in trouble). All in all hooters wings have turned from a fun challenge of cheap, average tasting wings to disgusting wings that are not worth your money unless you want to waste it. Also to note the environment is depressing. The server and bartender looked extremely overworked and distressed and the building looks like it on it last legs even though it was...
