Update: Upon my second visit, I am happier with the food here. I ordered the Kobe Burger, and I liked the way they fried the beef strips to give it more texture. Ultimately though I am still disappointed that there is so much bun compared to filling in the burger. Though by no means do I expect any restaurant to provide food that exactly resembles their advertisements, I do wish Japa Shack, as a local business, would try more to align what they claim with what they sell. Their online menu display of a burger overflowing with filing is simply too discordant with reality, a burger that is seemingly shy to reveal it's contents, and so hides within its buns. Came here on their opening day and ordered two recommended menu items, expecting the best they could offer. However what I received was rather average and well below my expectations. The deep fried pork cutlet in the katsu burger was incredibly thin, feeling almost non-existent within the buns. The volcano fries came with a measly amount of chicken on top, and overall was a very small portion at the given price point. The fries themselves somewhat redeemed the item, as they were fried well and were coated in a cheese powder. Taste wise everything was ok but nothing particularly unique or interesting. You can order ahead online which is nice. Frankly this place is closer to a 2 star rating, but I think it has the potential to be much better, and I am hopeful they can turn things around in the near future.

My wife and I have had the Kobe, Volcano, katsu and Buta burger. All burgers were 5 of 5! The meat was cooked well and not over cooked. Each burger had a unique texture and taste. They didn't seem to blend in or taste like the same burger. The Volcano burger is more on the sweet side than spicy but still very good! The salad mix and sliced carrots are perfect and not overbearing. Haven't tried the fries or other items yet but look forward to trying the different options they have. One of the best parts about the burger is the spicy mayo sauce they use. If you feel like your not a saucy person, you can ask for it on the side and they are more than happy to accommodate. I would highly recommend this place and will be returning for more!

3.5/5 The fries were crispy but were dry, (like cooked too long cause the oil was cold) 3.5/5 The volcano sauce is way to sweet, like candy i struggle to eat it. 2/5 The veggie burger was amazing! Still a little sweet but if the sweetness was dialled down a little bit this would have been the best veggie burger in the city 4/5 i might come regularly if this change was made 😂 I get that the entrance is for pickup, but it can still be cleaned up so it doesn’t feel as sketchy.

The Volcano Burger and Volcano Fries knocked me on my butt! Wow, I was not expecting this amazing flavor profile.

I'm new to Saskatoon from a small town in Manitoba and I've been enjoying the cuisine options Saskatoon has to offer. Upon first glance i wasn't sure I felt like something this adventurous, but thought i should give it a fair try. I'm glad I did! I was pleasantly surprised by flavor, presentation (in a take out order) and texture. I can tell that the chefs at Japa Shack enjoy what they do. Thank you for the flavorful journey you took me on. I can't wait for my next...
