Armen's Cafe — Restaurant in Saugeen Shores

This place has a major customer service problem: A server who is too stupid not to insult the customers.

There is a poster on one of the walls about the “Asian coffee experience”. I asked at the counter if they serve Asian coffees. For some reason the server showed me bags of tea. I repeated that I was interested in coffee and pointed out the poster. She said “Oh that’s from his travels.” and then “How do they do it?”

Before I had a chance to answer, she said in a snide tone “So you don’t even know?” Like I’m the moron in the conversation. Excuse me, bich? Not only did I not get to speak, “Asian coffee” covers a large range of methods and styles, even different equipment. There is no 2-second answer to “how to make Asian coffee”.

I said “I do know, but I’m not getting into all that now.” She made a face. But even if I didn’t know, so what? I’m the customer, asking about drinks pictured on the walls of the restaurant. It’s not my job to know, it’s hers.

Maybe she was lashing out because she felt stupid being caught not knowing about the posters in her own restaurant that she walks by every day. In any case, she handled it VERY badly. The correct response was “Sorry, no, we don’t serve Asian coffee.”

As for the food, it’s just OK. Below the skill level of an average home cook. Its main advantage is being lighter than the other options in town, which lean heavily towards fried food. One bite of the hummus was enough for me – it was ice-cold and sour. The bread was good, but I’m 100% certain they do not make it. The whole vibe is very amateur-hour, right down to the poorly...

Well then, the man followed through with his claims of flavour! I finally had the chance to pick up some goodies from Armen's, specifically the Chicken Vindaloo, the Pulled Beef Tacos, and the Paneer Sandwich. The portions were generous, and they were all full of flavour, and the Vindaloo in particular blew.me.away. I've been disappointed with the offerings in Saugeen Shores in regards to flavour, especially with the businesses that have tantalising descriptions regarding their food, but unfortunately fail on the actual execution. I'm absolutely delighted that Armen's claim of flavour is for real, it is the truth, it's not fluff and nice sounding descriptions, it's honest-to-goodness DELICIOUS fare! Will for sure happily return for the cool vibe and the food!...

If you are in South Hampton, this restaurant is a must try!!! Very unique dishes and specials change everyday! Unique fusion of different flavours that really work and make it so delicious! Came in for lunch and had the Cambodian beef sandwich...wow. explosion of flavours and it was a big sandwich. Great for sharing. Also had the Biryani wrap and it was delicious!
