Reviews Reviews are our most useful tools next to “word of mouth” when deciding to try a new restaurant. If a friend recommends a place, it usually is trustworthy. Yesterday I decided to go on a friends recommendation and try a sandwich at the Sandwich Shack. Unknown to me , the former Port Perry Smokehouse is no longer in business at this location which my friend had actually recommended. But being at their order desk, I decided to stay and give it a try. I ordered a Chicken sandwich and a Philly cheese steak sandwich for my friend. When we got the order after what seemed a long time, considering there were only one other couple in the restaurant we sat down and opened our boxes. I’m only writing about the cheesesteak as the chicken sandwich was OK. My friend decided to share a small piece with me because it looked so good. As I was eating it, I noticed it lacked a lot of flavour and was on the dry side. My friend then started to express his disappointment and I decided to take the leftover 1/3 sandwich into the store to let the management know. There’s nothing wrong with complaining as it may help management to know their product and to make any corrections. The cashier took my complaint and said she would tell the chef (probably at a later time.) At this point, I had brought the sandwich into the store to show them and left it on the counter in the box, and I proceeded to leave because it was obvious that’s all they were going to do. The cashier then told me that the garbage pail was outside, suggesting that I should throw it out there. That was kind of strange but in hindsight, rather funny. Obviously management doesn’t know it’s harder to get a new customer than it is to keep an existing one: basic rule of business. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning as my concern wasn’t treated as if they cared. Two sandwiches with water...
Read moreI actually ate here twice this week, and I think that says something about the food.
But I will say, on the second go, I was hoping for the fries to be less cooked. The first time there they were dry, and just over cooked. But had potential to be really good. Was thinking maybe I just got the bottom of the basket or something. But nope, tonight they were the same. Good, but overcooked.
Wednesday I had the Fried Chicken Sammy. Wow, was it almost overwhelming with how big it was! The chicken was cooked nicely, juicy and piping hot! I feel the sandwich could have used a little more of the Cajun mayo though.
And tonight I had the Korean Steak Sandwich. Wow! This was fantastic and finished off in a panini press which I personally feel is the best way to finish any sandwich off before eating it.
The steak was tender and seasoned just right. Perfect amount of cheese, bell peppers and jalapeños!
The other thing that will have me return as well is the portions. The value here is unmatched for other places in the are. Decent prices and you will leave full, and probably unable to finish what...
Read moreThe Sandwich Shack in Port Perry is an absolute gem!
As you approach the building, there are two customer entrances - takeout on the right, and dine-in on the left.
This week, we decided to dine-in - and we are so glad we did! Our server was a ray of sunshine! She was so friendly, hospitable, and really made us feel at home at the restaurant. It genuinely gives that “home town, slow living” feel of a restaurant. And we LOVE it!
For less than $50 (including tax & tip) We ordered: 🍗 Crispy Chicken Sandwich w/ Fries 🥪 Turkey Club w/ the Soup Of The Day (Cuban Chicken Soup)
The food came in way larger portions than we expected. All the food was fresh and super flavourful! After we finished eating, we basically had a third meal to take home for leftovers!
If you ever find yourself up north in Port Perry, this restaurant is a must-visit!
We cannot wait to come back to try out more...
